what's MORE prestigious? varsity soccer captain... or....

so…

my friend won two speech state championship titles this year.

i am getting the title of varsity soccer captain next year.

what is more impressive?

why?

(this is out of curiousity, fueled by my ambitiousness to see whos better. im too competetive for my own good)

wow some friend u are

^ he’s not really my “friend” per se. we are friends through rivalry more than any thing else.

we are both competing wildly against each other

captain is a leadership position.

Two time runner up state champ in speech sounds impressive. I didn’t know there was a such thing as speech championship, must have something to do with debate.

Since I play soccer I say you win, but I’m not an admissions officer.

This is utter nonsense. Who cares?

dank08, he’s no runner up. he’s THE state champ for two categories

oOo, sorry, I thought I read in another post that he got second place.

Seriously, just hope you both get into the school. Or you can always trip him down the stairs.

Haha, that kid’s state championships trump your varsity captain status. Perhaps if you were an all-state/all-american caliber player, or your high school’s team were a perenially state-competitive team, you’d be able to make a case for yourself. Otherwise, no dice.

I think it depends on what’s more needed to balance out an application. State champion in anything is pretty impressive, so I would vote for that. But Varsity captian is noting shy of great either.

varsity captian is a good leadership, but think about it: every school with a soccer team will have a captain (sometimes more than one).

But there is only one national championship. But, if u are good enough to get recruited then yea, u “beat” him. but if not, he “beat” u. lol

I say, that type of competition is unhealthy and unnecessary. Who cares? Worry about your own life, not the life of some guy. It’s not one big competition.

How can you win two state titles in Speech and Debate? In my state and a few others I know of, you can only compete in one event at the State Tournament. Haha your friend must be crazy!!!

id say the speech thing is kinda more prestigious… but the captain thing is still quite good
chyeeeeaa

no one cares about soccer anyway… Its much more important to have great debate skills than to kick a ball around

Nunca!!!^

no one cares about soccer anyway— Its much more important to have great debate skills than to kick a ball around
—paulfoerster,u just can’t conclude like that (for any game I’d say) Look, for debate, yeah it takes skills, but yet, if u look at it, which one does take more time and energy?!I’m passionate abt both of those. And thru my experience I must conclude, playing a games esp (the ones which are physical==soccer, football, basketball etc) ARE cared, atleast I do. Abt, which one look presitgious, well, tough to decide, but to me, the debate seems a bit more impressive since ‘they’ r most likely to get a lot of varsity soccer captains but not really a lot of state debate champions.

the question is a little esoteric, but what are we all here for, anyway? I’d have to go with the speaking champion on this one.

Varsity Captain shows commitment and leadership, choose captain. Why can’t you choose both? That’d prove far more interesting.

PS: By, the way, I told you guys, the PSAT thread got deleted and some posters were penalized. :)

I used to see this on shirts during the summer.

“Snitches get stitches.”

Both awards are prestigious, just keep working and try and get all area to really get the edge.

I was captain of my varsity soccer team for 3 years…

It really depends on how good your soccer team is, I guess. Winning state in speech is pretty cool.
