Two time runner up state champ in speech sounds impressive. I didn’t know there was a such thing as speech championship, must have something to do with debate.

Since I play soccer I say you win, but I’m not an admissions officer.

Haha, that kid’s state championships trump your varsity captain status. Perhaps if you were an all-state/all-american caliber player, or your high school’s team were a perenially state-competitive team, you’d be able to make a case for yourself. Otherwise, no dice.

I think it depends on what’s more needed to balance out an application. State champion in anything is pretty impressive, so I would vote for that. But Varsity captian is noting shy of great either.

I say, that type of competition is unhealthy and unnecessary. Who cares? Worry about your own life, not the life of some guy. It’s not one big competition.

How can you win two state titles in Speech and Debate? In my state and a few others I know of, you can only compete in one event at the State Tournament. Haha your friend must be crazy!!!

no one cares about soccer anyway— Its much more important to have great debate skills than to kick a ball around
—paulfoerster,u just can’t conclude like that (for any game I’d say) Look, for debate, yeah it takes skills, but yet, if u look at it, which one does take more time and energy?!I’m passionate abt both of those. And thru my experience I must conclude, playing a games esp (the ones which are physical==soccer, football, basketball etc) ARE cared, atleast I do. Abt, which one look presitgious, well, tough to decide, but to me, the debate seems a bit more impressive since ‘they’ r most likely to get a lot of varsity soccer captains but not really a lot of state debate champions.
