Whats more valuable? A high SAT I score or impressive SAT II scores?

Hi guys,

Im entering my senior year this fall, and i’ve just received a 1490 on my New SAT test this June.
I know it isnt a bad one, but it only equals 2150-2170 when converted to the old sat (which is not enough because im aiming for some merit based scholarship/full need met financial aid package)
Im not planning to apply for schools that require SAT II, but most of them highly recommend the test.
Should i retake the SAT I test this October, or should i take the SAT IIs instead? What is more highly regarded by adcom?
Pls help me im very confused rn
Thanks a lot xD

For getting merit money, the SAT.

It’s not an issue unless you are convinced that you’ll score really well on the Subject Tests. Based on where you already are on the SAT, you’d want 750+ scores to really give your app a boost (700+ won’t hurt). If that’s the case, I’d probably recommend Oct Subject Tests and November SAT repeat. You’ve already got good SAT scores but no Subject Test scores. Most merit scholarship decision are made late in the admission cycle, so a November SAT shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t waste the October date, though, unless you feel well prepared for STs.
