What's (or Who's) your favorite Twitter feed?

I was looking for a great Twitter feed to give me a daily positive/happy thought to start out the day with…and it struck me that there’s probably a lot of cool stuff out there on Twitter that I don’t know about. Right now I just follow the local news/weather, my kids (with their permission), a couple of neices, a couple celebrities, the Red Sox…not too much.

What/Who do you follow? Any recommendations? Could be humorous, interesting, useful, anything really! My only requirements is to not get bombarded with dozens of posts every hour. Or spammed.

I never did settle on on for a daily happy thought, so if you know of a good one for THAT…

I just signed up for a Twitter account for some personal/career reasons and am trying to figure it out. Can anyone point me to a primer of how to maximize the experience and minimize the junk? (sorry to thread hi-jack, but it’s somewhat related)

My son follows much more amusing people/sites than I do. I try to keep my Twitter account strictly professional, so almost all are either news sites or are related to my line of business.

I also follow my kids’ school district/colleges and the local police departments.

I follow Seinfeld today. It would be what would be on Seinfeld if it were still on the air. Humor, current events, and general nuttiness.

My favorite is pourmecoffee

I also follow multiple feeds from my kids’ colleges. (campus life, the libraries, athletics, etc.)

Now that Son is a junior the internship search is in full swing. So, we’re both following comminternships and nyinternships, among others.

Oh, another favorite is Chuck Todd, the NBC white house correspondent. He tweets about the WH, obviously. But also sports. He’ll banter with followers, too.

OMG mom2kids, I was JUST about to post Modern Seinfeld - it that the same as yours??? If you were/are a Seinfeld fan, it was make you chuckle.

Apolo Ohno has some inspiring tweets.
The Ellen Show - humor
iAm Wise is inspiring/motivational thoughts.

My kids’ schools and favorite sports team. Other than those, I mostly follow my kids and nieces and nephews and some of their friends. That allows me to watch conversations between them which I find fasicinating. For example, my niece who is a freshman in college saying she’s having a tough time in one of her classes and my son, who is a grad student offering to tutor her. Without following them I would have been clueless to what a nice guy he is :)

I signed up for Twitter to make sure a porn star would not use my real name. The only person I follow is my baby kiddo. :)

I know I’m old school but I don’t do Twitter. Don’t have a Facebook page either.

Do your college-age kids actually let you follow them? I’m sure mine would say “no way.” She’s a fantastic D, but she wants her privacy and I respect that.

I do follow a site that sends a daily Bible verse…I read quite a few before following to make sure whoever was choosing the verses didn’t have a political agenda. So it might be inspirational to follow a site related to your religious faith, to the extent that applies to you.

My college age kids DO let me follow them (and I’m friends with them on Facebook as well) - they are both very conservative and know VERY WELL that they shouldn’t be posting things on the internet that they don’t want to be out there for all to see (and they also know very well how to manage their privacy settings!! )

Thanks for some great suggestions!

I don’t tweet, but I do follow some celebrities and organizations. I love following Willie Geist. He throws out some Vandy love every now and then, but he also writes some amusing things about life & his kids.

I am also a twitter lurker. There are several organizations I follow purely for news and information. There are about three that crack me up but they all depend on your political leanings which are intensely personal so I wouldn’t think of suggesting them to someone else, but they do make me happy. I was a huge Seinfeld fan back in the day. Thanks for the heads up. I’m going to have to look it up!
