S and I are looking to learn basic video editing this summer. We have i-Movie on our Macs but have never used it. Is this the best way to go? Or is there another software that you’d recommend? Again quick and easy is what we’re looking for. Thanks for your help.

bumpity bump bump

By all means use iMovie/iDVD. It is the sole reason I bought a Mac and I was not disappointed. (I must use a PC at work.)

I second iMovie - quite intuitive, and as good as anything you’ll get for free. The PC equivalent: Windows Live Movie Maker, is frustratingly counterintuitive and buggy in comparison.

I do not know if there is a Mac version of it, but PC users used to be able to download FREE 30-day trial of Sony Vegas. It took my D about 30 minutes to edit and produce a little movie for her HS class using a truncated version of that software.

It looks to me that you are already set with your movie ediing software.

Third vote for iMovie. Nothing on the Windows side comes close. And I’ve tried them.

Easiest does not neccessarily = best. Is Adobe Photoshop “easy” to use? Probably, if you only use a few basic features. To know the capabilities of this program in depth, one need some serious experimenting and maybe even a class. It does not look like our OP is shooting for the “best”, they need a basic, easy to use and robust software which they, as they mentioned, already have. I agree that Microsoft’s Movie Maker is crap, but there are more serious movie editing programs for PCs that are better (however, not easier for an average home user).

I’ve had great luck with a software called VideoWave. My version is old so I don’t even know if it’s still available.

The OP wrote:

“Again quick and easy is what we’re looking for.”

In this sense, iMovie wins hands down.
