Whats the best SAT tutoring program?

I’m searching for the best prep course with an already high SAT score as well. I can’t tell you which course is the best, but I can tell you to avoid the Sylvan SAT Prep Class at all costs! It is very basic, and the instructors are horrible. The woman teaching the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the class was a Social Studies teacher with a poor background in the material. All we did in the class was read through the book. That’s all she did. She read to us from the book, line for line. I could’ve done that on my own. It was the same with the math instructor. She couldn’t even answer the group’s questions half of the time. She would copy the answer from the book, then admit that she wasn’t quite sure how or why they did what they did. I was very disappointed. Basically in signing up for the class, you were paying all that money just to be read to from the books. I could’ve just bought a set of books on my own, and it would have been much less expensive. My score did improve from the beginning to the end of the course. However, I went into the course not having seen any SAT material before. Already taking the SAT once now, and preparing to take it again, I definitely need something more in-depth, and I assume you’d like the same. Therefore, avoid Sylvan Learning Center! I’ve heard similar things about Kaplan-- that it’s a very basic outline. I have heard good thing about Testmaster and Top Test Prep, but can’t testify since I haven’t taken either course. I wish you the best of luck! :)

Testmasters. Raised my score 200-300 points. Truly amazing.

which location did you take the SAT course? Please pm me your instructor’s name if it’s ok with you. thanks!

what is cc, bb and blue book?

cc = college confidential (this website)

bb = blue book = the official SAT study guide by he college board

I have heard that taking it at least once raises your score. Is there any test prep that allows for you to take practice SAT tests?

Yeah, there are heaps - use Google to find them…

Princeton Review, Kaplan both have practice tests.
BB has 10 of them - but my tutor told me the questions are a lot easier in the BB than the actual test ?!?!???

The first 3 tests in the blue book are actual SATs.

At this stage: PREP CLASSES WILL NOT HELP!
Why? most people that go to them score low —> so it is easy to raise their score, these people are willing to pay because they cant help themselves
for the random semi smart student who does a prep class, they will never improve because the prep classes just want quick $$$ if one student does not improve, thats 100% fine with them

IF YOU WANT TO DO WELL AND IMPROVE:

 1. Sit down and ask yourself if you want to do good
 2. If you sincerely, truly, honestly want to improve with all your heart, if it is your greatest desire Do you truly want it that bad?..then…

Get the blue book and go to the library and pick up as many prep books as you can.

Everyday for 1 hour do one section from the bluee book (like 1 section from 1 test) and memorized 30-50 vocabs. For grammar, review all the rules in the prep books.

When it comes close to test time, find more practice tests: type in google" “past sat practice tests” and look at the thread in the stick section

I guarantee you this will work. Just do it.

Does anyone know about bestprep course, the one that has the book " boot camp" . bestprep.com, thanks

^+1 about classes. Classes are pretty useless for all but the lowest scorers - but I would also add that just studying from the BB won’t help either if you don’t know what you’re doing wrong. Yes, it will get you familiar with the questions (because they’re basically all the same from test to test once you get the hang of them), but a good one-on-one tutor can pop your score up much more quickly and much more efficiently.

The big companies have NO hiring standards for their tutors and produce very poor results.

About memorizing words each night- what words do you memorize and where would you find them?

stillstandin17 has only two posts on College Confidential, both of which are endorsements for ClearPath Advantage.

Okay thank you that helped a lot!(:
