Okay. I know this may sound stupid, but yeah. I have a year and few months till I have to give my application to colleges and Yale is my first choice. Is there any way to get into this Uni? My grades are all on the B+ to A- side. And I volunteer and do the whole big bash. Is there anyway I could possibly have a good chance to get into this Uni? And how please!
Present yourself honestly and hope for the best. Many smart kids get turned down for Yale and other Ivies. Make your volunteering look unique compared to the other applicants. Do SOMETHING to stand out.
Im certainly not an expert on this but all I will say is that Yale especially in my experience was interested in seeing an applicant who had genuine interests (usually more than one) and had followed that or those interests in a novel and deep way. Getting national recognition in the area of interest is almost mandatory. I think that admissions is better than most about culling those who look good on paper but are doing whatever they are doing to get in Yale as the sole, or even primary, motivation. You can overcome a B+ but youve got to offer something unique to do that.
Mind you, with no grade lower than an A-, she was rejected from Yale, waitlisted at Princeton and accepted to Harvard. So, what does this tell you about your odds?
A B+ to A- GPA means that your GPA lies between 3.33 and 3.67.
Frankly with that GPA, you would have a tough time getting into any USNWR top 25 college. And that would make Yale basically an impossibility, unless you are from the Bush or Obama family. There will be many great colleges out there for you; attending Yale will be unlikely, though.
With apologies in advance to gibby and T26E4 for sounding like a broken record, the best way to be accepted by Yale (or Harvard or Princeton) is to be an academically strong applicant with good character who excels in a sport played within the Ivy League athletic conference.
