I am disgusted by some of the police behavior that has been caught on camera. However, I am grateful for the strong police presence around my daughter’s residence. We need the police in times like these. Rogue or racist behavior by dirty cops needs to be addressed immediately and firmly. But we can’t throw the baby out with the bath water. There are good cops just trying to do their jobs in a very challenging situation.
I am saddened that there has been almost no news coverage of the shooting and killing of officer Patrick Underwood in Oakland. He was a Federal Protective Officer guarding the federal courthouse. Assassinated in a drive by during the riots. He deserves at least as much attention as George Floyd.
There are plenty of studies out there like this, the data are always consistent.
Because it is simply impossible, for political reasons, to have an honest discussion of what is actually happening out there, there is no hope for a rational discourse that brings people together.
By an order of magnitude. The actual statistics are shocking. NYC and LA, for examples, keep very good records, but be careful of the sleight of hand with almost all the databases (including FBI and unified crime statistics) - non-black Hispanic perpetrators listed as “white” while non-black Hispanic victims separately broken out. It is all a political game, and there is great juice in it for the politicians and race racketeers. It is a sad irony that lower-SES (including many POC) pay the price so that the privileged can maintain their self delusion of moral superiority.
Some of the looters were arrested and booked but then let go. Basically issued a ticket. Why they aren’t kept in jail is a good question. So we can expect more violence today. The looters came into Encino last night. They hit a CVS store.
As I said before the peaceful protesters need to recognize that they are a ‘cover’ for the violence. As long as the police are otherwise occupied with keeping the peaceful protesters peaceful, there isn’t enough manpower to prevent the looting. And the peaceful protesters need to recognize that they are being used by anarchist groups to foment more violence. NBC News had an article about the arrests in New York. 1 in 7 were from out of state. They had pre-positioned bricks, had runners on bicycles organizing things.
Funny, I never recall so much hand-wringing over trying to distinguish the peaceful protesters in Charlottesville from the few agitators as I have seen on this thread regarding the current protesters/rioters. Again, this is all just a game of virtue signaling, folks.
I saw one of the protesters marching with a sign that read "All Cops are “Bad Word for Illegitimate Children”. (The actual word would not be allowed) And I wondered “Who are the haters here?”
Update from Philly - firefighters have fought over 300 fires in less than 48 hours. Fire chief said fires are being set by people in their own neighborhoods, including stores with apartments above them. He said a tragedy is inevitable because they can’t keep up this pace.
Violence and looting going on in Seattle, and even looting on the east side. I really didn’t think we had enough POS losers in this city to do this kind of thing, but apparently we do.
All these crowds, people yelling, I suspect the number of COVID-19 cases are going to take a huge jump in the next few weeks.
What I witnessed in LA, specifically Santa Monica yesterday. Through social media, large groups of people performed a very coordinated effort to target specific stores that sell expensive sneakers, high-end clothes, etc.; items that are easy to sell on the secondary market. They came with multiple cars (some with covers over their license plate), garbage bags, hammers and crow bars, had look outs, and moved quickly through each store. The would break into stores, load their cars, and then drive away to the next store.
Most of these people were never part of the original protest in Santa Monica going on several blocks over but an organized, premeditated, almost professional team of looters. Shocking, disturbing and yet interesting to see how it was carried out. I hope that surveillance video and cell phone location information ultimately can identify these perpetrators and they arrest all of them.
That Harvard epidemiologist: Headline should read “It’s okay to sacrifice grandma to the virus so people can riot but not so people can provide for their families”
I can’t believe people are saying or implying that all police or all police forces are bad.
Isn’t that the same generalization some groups use to say all (insert race, gender, or ethnicity of choice) are bad?
Sort out the bad apples. Fix bad legislation or policies. Stop all looting/burning. Punish all offenders on both “sides.”
Protesting non-violently is fine. It always should be. Destroying other peoples’ things or lives never should be fine.
Would we really be better off if every single police officer decided to quit right now having learned about how “bad” they are? (Or simply having had enough of the masses?)
I have a cousin who is a white police officer. I have a DIL who is mixed race, one of which is black (the other is Hispanic for those who must know). You know what? I love and respect them both and want both of them treated equally. I want a safe place for everyone, individuals and business owners as well as any other category one can come up with.
Things were quiet in my area last night and yesterday afternoon, police in one of the tri-cities, joined in with the protestors and took participated in taking a knee with them. The Chief if police eventually joined in with the officers who were kneeling with the protestors and then marched with them.
I am very glad for this outcome and hope it continues.
