What's the most you have spent on makeup?

I just bought online from Nordstrom the most expensive lipstick! It’s free return, so I can send it back…they don’t have it in the store. I Love Amal Clooneys makeup and found that she uses Charlotte Tilbury makeup…and of course the artist does Amals. . Apparently, her line is new to the states and not everyone carries it yet…and even some of her line hasn’t made it across the pond yet. I bought Coachella Coral for $32. If I like it I’ll get the liner. I have a hard time with lipsticks as I got older. I used to be able to wear anything, now I only wear Clinique. The other dry my lips and they hurt terribly. I’ll let you know what I think when I get it in.

I recently got some Charlotte Tilbury makeup (a splurge) and love it – I especially like the Wonderglow (illuminating primer) and the liquid foundation. Before buying any makeup or skincare products I check out the reviews on makeupalley website.

How do you tell about a lipstick online or by a photo. For me it’s all about smell and texture. How would you try then return a lipstick?

I just bought a tube of Chanel mascara, $32. It lasts me “like forever” if I clean the brush with alcohol wipes after each use.

I would never return opened makeup - unless it was defective.

I like everything to come from the same brand; I’m funny that way. I use Laura Mercier for makeup, Caudalie for skin care. But for my body I use any old soap!

I spend a lot. Last fall I was running low on almost everything I use every day and the total came to around $700.

$700??? Holy moley! I still buy 90% at the drugstore. Only my Tarte concealer comes from Ulta. I probably spend $250-300/year.

I’m a drug store cheapskate. But when my daughter was dancing competitively, MAC was the make up of choice for her studio. Had to hide the receipts from dear old dad. He would have FREAKED OUT. Big time.

I’m not loyal to any one specific brand, and I’m not into makeup, but I’m loyal to certain things by certain makers. I wear full makeup maybe 10 times a year. In my bag: Chanel eyeshadow, Benefit eyeshadow, Chanel eyeliner, brow pencil and mascara, LM lip stuff, and Chanel foundation/concealer etc. Since I’m careful about double-dipping, and I wipe things with alcohol wipes, I keep my makeup longer than 6 months.

I use a cotton ball or cotton swab and throw it out afterward. The exception would be mascara, which I rarely use now.

Almost nothing. I’ve never worn much makeup, and now that I work from home even less. Most is Almay.

I like Tarte eyeshadows, the ones with the Amazonian clay.

I work from home but I do my face daily when I get dressed. It just makes me feel ready for the day. I use Lancôme.

I spend much more on skincare than makeup. As my skin tone and texture improve, I need less makeup.
I like skinceuticals and obagi skincare products.

I read one time that Americans spend more money on makeup and Europeans spend more money on skincare. I have no idea if that is true, but was interesting to read. The only skincare regiment I do is Retin A, started about 2.5 years ago. I’m lucky to have good skin, but I was seeing minor wrinkles around my eyes and my pores just seemed larger, and my complexion not as bright. The retin a got rid of those wrinkles (I still wrinkle when I smile), shut those pores and my complexion is back to normal. The only thing I don’t like is my skin does seem a little thinner.

I started using it on my chest, as I now see the V wrinkles there, but it makes it so itchy. Plus, I don’t know if I want my skin thinner there. Don’t know if there is anything out there for that other than trying to sleep more on my back or quit rolling into such a tight fetal position. I’m won’t wear one of those bra things.

That $700 includes skin care products like moisturizer, undereye moisturizer, toner, repair serum, etc.

I use various makeup/skincare brands and change things up over time. My last makeup purchase was a custom blended lipstick which was not inexpensive but worth it. I am ready to go to Sephora and have makeup done as I haven’t done this for a few years and would like to freshen my look.

I don’t wear much makeup but I do spend on skin care items. I also spend a lot for my hair conditioner. For moisturizer products I like the The Essential C line by Murad. I also love the Algenist Regenerative anti-aging moisturizer SPF 20. Expensive but I am super picky about how lotions feel on my face.
I recently had a coupon at Ulta and restocked all my moisturizer products-serum,nighttime and 2 different daytime products, plus a micro polish and a huge bottle of Purelogy conditioner. The totel was in the hundreds but I am now set for quite a while.

I never spend a lot. I do, however, get advice from makeup artist friends in Hollywood. And for skin care I go with the recommendations from my dermatologist.( everything I purchase can be bought at Target) From them I have learned that expensive very rarely means better.

Well, got the Charlotte Tilbury lipstick in Coachella Coral yesterday. Tried it today…the color is really no big deal…just a nice coral. It is very smooth and creamy, but it looks no different than any other coral. For $32, I’m really thinking I might send it back and then can buy 2 lipsticks at clinique. I was expecting it to be corally pink…like I’ve read and even seen on images…but no.
