and what can I buy with it? Is it like a debit card? Will I recieve it right when I get to school (spring semester) in a few days. I ask because I will need some things like clothes, towels, bedding. a laptop and I’ll be able to pocket most of my FA because my GI bill will cover most everything.

Um, I’ll wait to see if anyone else knows what you’re talking about. Might it be related to your school? To the GI bill?

No. I heard all schools now issue a FA card…there was a thread about it here.

It’s hard to keep up… :)

Global Cash Card I think

I would contact your school directly to find out how they will handle any overage on your student account. At my Daughter’s school it takes 1-2 weeks before they disburse it in the form of a check. I haven’t heard about a cash card.

I think each school has a different system with a growing number putting excess FA on a debit type card. Each school uses a different brand of card. Mine uses Higher One unless you opt out. You can only use it anywhere that takes credit/debit cards but I opted out because you can’t withdraw cash. I already have a debit card I don’t need my money trapped in a new one. My FA is going to be direct deposited in my checking account.

At my school you don’t get the FA disbursement until a month after the semester starts. Spring semester started Jan 10 for me and disbursement is Feb 4.
