I’m having little success finding the right group of people to live with. I have lived in two different off campus apartments and haven’t enjoyed my experience in either. In one, it was too quiet. I had a single in a shared home on North side and I got frustrated by the monotony. In another apartment, I lived on the South side with 11 other people. Almost everybody was Asian (I’m more compatible living with white people but love my asian friends), very into gaming or partying, lots of apartment politics, and nothing interesting was ever discussed.

I looked into fraternities and rushed, but turned out it wasn’t for me.

What I have left to try is the co-ops, but I’m afraid they won’t be much different. Plus, I don’t want to have to play the apply and wait game.

I’m pretty passionate about chemistry and I dream of being in an environment with chill people who are just as passionate about their interests as I am. It seems that Cal students hate studying, save work till the end, and just try to get by in classes, living from one midterm to the next. This is not what I expected coming to Cal, and I would hate to transfer for this reason. Where are the groups of passionate, studious, diverse, laid back students? Where can I find other people who are working towards big goals?
