What's the trick to keep face creams from eventually getting into eyes?

It seems like no matter how hard I try to avoid my eyes when putting on face cream, within a few hours some has somehow gotten into an eye and burns/irritates for the next day.

TIA

Keep your head high? You can do it.

I wonder if it is anatomy issue? Cheek bone placement? Eye shape? Who knows? I can wear face cream or eyeliner/mascara but not both. It doesn’t matter what I do or what kind of mascara I buy. I always end up with raccoon eyes if I use any kind of lotion on my face.

I do think some things sting more than others. I use the CeraVe pm very near my eyes and it has never caused irritation. But it does make my mascara run.

I never put any lotion or cream too close to eyes and never put anything above my eyes where they could drip into eyes with the help of gravity.

I put on face cream/moisturizer on my entire face before I go to sleep, but in the morning (after my shower/before I put on any makeup) I only put on moisturizer below my eyes. I use an eye shadow primer to keep my eye makeup on and I don’t want it sliding with a layer of moisturizer underneath. The nighttime moisturizer routine keeps the area in shape.

I’ve never had the problem with moisturizer on my forehead, but terrible time when putting sunscreen on.

I also use an eye cream under my eyes, too, not my regular moisturizer.

This is what I use around my eyes:

It does not migrate and actually works as a concealer in my case. The fact that it is a physical sunscreen for the eye area is a plus in my book.

Using only Clinique sunscreen solved this problem for me. My eyes are too sensitive for many sunscreens and lotions and when biking, there would be drip and then burning. It is crazy making!!!

The other thing that helped was finally getting the blepharoplasty, which solved the droop around my upper eyelids.

Pretty much all the ones w sunscreen additives will irritate your eyes.

The way I manage it (if sweating in the heat is anticipated) is to not apply any sunscreen above my cheeks and/or use a cream that won’t irritate my eyes and just stay out of the sun or wear a hat. Most of the time I just use Aveeno body lotion on my face. It doesn’t irritate my eyes, and it’s good & cheap.

The best thing for your skin condition is to stay out of the sun. There was some study I read that the un-sunned butt cheeks of 80 year olds looked as young as the sunned face cheeks of 18 year olds.

My skin is quite sensitive to most moisturizers, particularly perfumed ones. I’ve had good luck with Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer for sensitive skin, but I don’t put it around my eyes. I use L’Oreal eye defense cream (small jar, pale pink) and can put it above and below the eye, and even on the eyelid. There is no stinging. Put the eye cream on first, then the face moisturizer. I don’t wear mascara to save my eyes from irritation, but I do wear eyeliner. For sunscreen I use Neutrogena for babies on my face.

Do you need both a night cream and a day cream? The answer is NO. Most of the time, only difference is the sunblock, which is not added to the night cream. So Chanel came up with a solution:

  1. For daytime. Use this under your spf-free favorite cream without spf - it is an inorganic (titanium dioxide) sunblock that is free of suspect UV absorbers:

You only need a pinhead-sized drop, so this jar lasts a loooong time.

  1. For nighttime. Use SAME cream. Done.
