what's the typical NEU student?

Is Northeastern a good school for a student who:
is considering graduate/medical school
likes a moderately intellectual environment
wants financial aid

From what I see, the main reason people are appying to NEU is for the co-op opportunity to get into the “real world” work force.
I also heard that if you don’t like to discuss baseball games all the time then you shouldn’t apply.
Plus, I heard the financial aid is horrible.

just looking for someone to tell me all these aren’t exactly true.

I also heard that NEU is only good for business students.

I have no idea who you are talking to. The financial aid has not been horrible at all in my son’s case (he is a freshman there). He is not a business major. He is a criminal justice major and NEU is one of the best schools around for that major. He doesn’t discuss baseball games all the time and neither do his friends. They are a pretty varied group just the same as it is at any good sized school. I have seen a full range of types there: jocks, preppy kids, emo kids, kids from all over the country, international students, etc. Why don’t you go visit the school and check it out for yourself?

Northeastern is good for more than just business students. I currently go to Northeastern and I have no idea why people would say that if you don’t like to discuss baseball you shouldn’t apply. It is in Boston and there are some redsox fans but I don’t pay attention to baseball at all and don’t really notice it.

I think if you don’t like to discuss baseball games you shouldn’t go to school in Boston! NEU is not too far from Fenway, but BU is actually closer.

There is more to Boston than the Redsox and you don’t need to be a baseball fan to like it here.

You definitely don’t have to talk/like baseball. I love baseball myself but have found myself not talking about it 24/7, but that’s just me, I’m not too fanatical. Although I can’t gurantee you won’t occassionally hear people yelling when playoff games are on tv.

It is a good place for grad/med school if you’re looking to pad your resume. But if you want to get there asap & 5 years of undergrad studies is too much, Northeastern may not be for you. Afterall, NEU is expensive too and you’ll need to save some $$$ for grad/med school.

It isn’t the most intellectual environment, to be honest. But you can definitely find some people who are more cosmopolitan.

I’m a freshman at Northeastern and I don’t know the first thing about sports.

There are a lot of students at NEU that work hard in hopes of pursuing graduate/law/med school in the future. I myself am a pharmacy major and hope to advance to medical school later. Additionally, many of the recitation leaders are current grad students at NEU, so they are a great resource to consult.

I came from a high school where I was always at the top of my class. NEU is definitely a change of pace; there are students that work harder than I do and students that don’t work as hard. I can’t say that all of my classes are exactly intellectually stimulating, but it’s important to note that I took a few intro/101 classes. I’m appreciating the good grades/gpa boost and bracing myself for the hard courses that are to come in the future.

Lastly, I don’t think I’ve heard very many people complain about the financial packages they received. I received a generous merit scholarship and many of my friends received a lot of merit scholarships, grants, and loans.

thanks for your information!
there were just so many students at my school only applying to get a co-op and some said there was no fin-aid and that it was all about baseball.

thanks for clearing it up for me. I appreciate 'cause I’m indifferent to baseball myself lol
:)

Football, on the other hand, is an entirely different story…

yeah, GO PATS !!!
