What's the WORST book you ever read?

Oh, I see. That’s usually what I do in my school papers, haha.

The one book that I can honestly say I read a little bit of and just couldn’t bring myself to open again was Heart of Darkness. I don’t remember who wrote it or anything, all I remember is that it was awful.

And I can definitely feel for you when you say you got infatuated with the characters in twilight. It is such easy reading with pretty good characterization (which I’m a sucker for in books/tv shows/movies), even if it is kind of lame to admit it. The movie ruined the magic of the books for me though.

idk, personally I dodn’t like animal farm because I felt like it was just trying to shove down the themes at your face-just like the pearl did. but i can appreciate animal farm, i just didn’t particularly like it at all. oh, and i thought old man and the sea is a horrible pointless book.

I really loved “The Da Vinci Code”, but I thought Dan Brown was a terrible writer. Seriously. I think Dickens needs to take Creative Writing 101. My calculus textbook has a stronger plot than “Great Expectations”. Other than that, I don’t read books that suck. isn’t that what sparknotes is for?

ugh, this reminds me, i have to read the remaining 9/10 of Hamlet.
either actually reading the whole thing or ap studying : )
the first 10 or so pages were okay, though :/

Part of the reason I don’t like Twilight (other than the non-existent plot and bad writing) is that I absolutely CAN NOT stand the characters…I mean Edward is like some sort of masochistic stalker, and Bella is a Mary-Sue who has to always have a man save her and the only thing she can do is cook (and she is quite whiny as well).

haha I just felt the need to bash Twilight, again :p. Don’t even let me get started on Eragon…

Lulllz, I read Eragon and was joking about how similar to Star Wars it was. I never read the second book. So I say jokingly, “In the next book, it turns out the other guy was actually his father!” (I said the actual names though, don’t remember them now). And my friend gets ****ed off at me for spoiling it to someone else! Apparently that actually happens in the book!

not only did he steal the plot from Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, his writing is absolute crap. I don’t care how young he was, stuff like that shouldn’t ever be published. Yeah and I agree, his plot is just sooo overdone, and obvious.

And of course, its a NY times bestseller (I guess I’m part to blame though, because I mistakenly bought a copy of the 1st book). Eragon= bad, cliche filled writing.

Hmm…I feel quite good about ranting :p

Do not use the Lord’s name in vain.

I started Eragon on three separate occasions. Didn’t finish during any one.

And I thought it was just me.

“Bella is a Mary-Sue who has to always have a man save her and the only thing she can do is cook (and she is quite whiny as well).”
…&…i agree with that. meyer could have made her character so much better. i can rant about her all day, for real.

Fahrenheit 451 was lame. I couldn’t understand it at all when it was mandatory summer reading before 7th grade.

The Crucible sucked, too.

And so did Macbeth.

I’ve only heard good things about Fahrenheit 451, but The Crucible was only boring because I had to read it in AP English 11.

As for Hamlet: No. I just say “NO” to that book. Or play.

i freaking hated the crucible! great writing and thematic material, but i wanted abigail to materialize so i could punch her in the face!!!

Agreed. Abigail is the Queen of Skanks!

I second Pride and Prejudice! (And I’m a girl, too.)

And I like to sum up Twilight like this: it is not good, just addicting.

^defylegacy= agreed!

In Cold Blood was possibly the worst book that ever touched my fingers. It took me about 2 weeks to drag myself through 20 pages, and I finally gave up and forced myself to get through the agony of reading it on sparknotes.

Worst books ever:

House of the Spirits
The Awakening
The Poisonwood Bible
Like Water for Chocolate
To Kill a Mockingbird
L’Attentat
Suite Francaise

eww the awakening, its okay in one sitting but in parts it, rots your brain from the inside out

i liked the ending though! very symbolic =)
