What's the WORST book you ever read?

Oh yeah! Pride and Prejudice isn’t as bad as To Kill a Mockingbird.

Their Eyes Were Watching God.
Pure misery.

But To Kill a Mockingbird and All Quiet on the Western Front? Really? Those are two of my favorite books.

end of Life of Pi and The Joy Luck Club
oh lord.

Has to be
“A Room of One’s Own” by Virginia Woolf

HORRIBLE BOOK

A Short History of Nearly Everything…All Bill Bryson did was research the lives of a bunch of scientists and write about how they discovered what they did.

Heart of Darkness

I HATED that book with an undying passion :)

Grapes or Wrath? I absolutely cannot stand this book! I keep dozing off every other chapter. Turtle? Corn? ***? couldnt i get all this info from history?

scarlet letter=horrible; only reason i can say that i could possible like this book is because of the aldutery.

does anyone find it weird that most of these books which are considered “great literature” are taught to us in school and most of the teachers dont like these books?

O the irony :)

@ CRYSOMEMORE: Hey, give me some credit! I read it in elementary school. :P

Their Eyes Were Watching God. Hahahaha. Agreed. One of the least enjoyable books I’ve ever read. I have numerous complaints about the entire thing but it all boils down to the fact that Jamie is so passively-aggressive and whiny that she makes me want to off myself. Also, the supporting characters are all there to manipulate the reader into feeling bad for Jamie. Ugh.

To Kill a Mockingbird.
It sucked.

To Kill a Mockingbird… I hated it!

It seems like most these books you guys claim is the worst book you ever read are classics. Not that I’m an endorser for books that withstand the test of time, but they have done so for a reason. I’m glad you guys haven’t mentioned Shakespeare (of the threads I’ve read).

I loved to Kill a Mockingbird. It made me cry…

the worst book ever: Martian Chronicles. like really? all i remember from that book was a hotdog stand out in the middle of nowhere (for those of you who’ve read it, you probably get what i mean…)

i have never opened twilight. never touched a page (maybe the cover a few times to move it farther away from me…). my friends and i thought it was hilarious that this girl was wearing a shirt that said “edward is my hero” and one of my friends is edward. we realized later that it referred to THAT edward. -.-

the scarlett letter. TERRIBLE!!

Definitely So Long a Letter, I was waiting for the climax through all of its pages.
There is only so much African literature one can read.

The Uglies and Moby Dick.

I made it half-way through The Uglies but couldn’t finish it. It failed to peak my interest.

Moby Dick was, first off, too long. Secondly, throughout the entire book, Melville took a page or so just to describe a simple situation and/or location. That was one tedious book.

Phillip Pullman’s
Dark Materials Series
I was really into the books, and then the ending ruined it for me. I was like, “that’s all!?”

Across Five Aprils. We had to read it for summer reading in 5th grade and it was my first impression of the new school I was going to. Needless to say, it was a correct impression: boring as hell and TERRIBLE.
Anything by John Steinback, Twilight definitely (I just wasted money and time! Yay!), and The Lord of the Rings series. Seriously, Tolkien, you needed a better editor. Although I do like the works as a whole and can appreciate them, I just think that he spent too much time describing pointless stuff. And the rhyming elf names. What was with the rhyming elf names?

I don’t understand how people could hate To Kill a Mockingbird or Dante’s Inferno. Dante was a genius. Maybe y’all had a non-engaging translation or a bad teacher or something. And To Kill a Mockingbird was just awesome.

To all the people saying Eragon sucked, really needs to get their eyes checked to see if they are reading right. That book and the entire series is amazing. Harry Potter is also an amazing series.

Of Mice and Men on the other hand, sucked. Cyrano De Begerac sucked even more.
