What's this about white male physics majors?

So apparently I read someone’s joke from the Cornell RD Results thread

So, white males who want to become physics majors are at a disadvantage because there are to many of them?

Are there too many physics majors in general? Or just the “white male physics major”?

See, I’m an asian female who wants to major in physics…

There aren’t really very many physics majors, in my experience. We’re a small, odd bunch. Most people seem to be interested in business for some reason.

I think the joke was that (A) he’s from New York, and that is the state with the most applicants to Cornell (B) he’s a white male, and white males are quite common (C) physics is a semi-popular major, although I don’t think there too many of them.

I could be wrong, but that’s what I perceive the joke to mean.
