99% of people on these boards have it. Is it something like “who’s who among insert thing”?

No…National Honor Society is like a community service organization for “honor” students. I think it’s mostly BS though. At my school, NHS does nothing and is comprised mostly of students who have good grades because they know how to cheat without getting caught.

wuuut r u talking about…

are you even in it gorbachev!?

It is an academic honor society, yes u do community service but its because its required to stay in it. At my school, there is a major application process. Its seriously like college and its very prestigious if u get in.

They monitor ur grades and the moment u drop below i think a 3.5 that semester then ur out.

Yes, I’m in NHS, although I’d rather not be. The quality varies from school to school though. It might be wonderful at your school, but not at mine. I doubt it’s like college, though.

Furthermore, Doogie, I think you should be expelled from NHS for using abbreviated-internet-speak, which is the the lingua franca of Hell.

And the above comment was supposed to be droll and sarcastic, not cruel, in case that escaped you.

ahaha oh, pleaaaseee. Relax buddy, i dont appreciate that comment

“NHS does nothing and is comprised mostly of students who have good grades because they know how to cheat without getting caught.”

Thats garbage, and just because its a joke at ur school, doesnt mean u have to talk down about the ENTIRE society.

And ill use the intrnt spk whnevr i want 2 ty vry much.

I’m having a priest sent over to your house to exorcise your internet-speak demons.

At my school the NHS does nothing. You don’t do anything special to stay in beyond maintaining an average of 85 or higher. To get in you need that plus extracurriculars and “leadership”. Once you’re in, you do nothing. They hold a blood drive once a year and that’s all that there is to it. They talk about it like it’s something great, but all it does is fill up an extra spot on your college application.

Maybe if you had to do something special to get in and every school had the same standards, it would matter, but as it stands, it’s basically meaningless.

not at my school…my advisor makes it a point for it to be in our GC recs and she supplements it because its an honor at my school.

And ya where i go, its hard to keep your semester avg above an 85.

Hee hee.

I got into NHS and I’ve been suspended!

be proud of that…go ahead

makes you look respectable…

Hey! Who says I’m not respectable?

NHS is a pile of ****. Our school focuses on what community service you have already done when you apply. Grades hardly matter. A lot of members have B averages in our school, which is basically like a C or D anywhere else with our grade inflation

that doesnt fly at my school. This makes me feel alot better now about my school when i apply for colleges

Seriously it does, seems like out of all you guys my school is actually legit!

NHS…LoL

Well, At my school, you just have to have over 3.5 GPA and then crappy community service to stay in (like… at least 3 a semester) which is really annoying… No matter if it’s bad at your school or not, remember it looks better on your college transcript than nothing.

You must have have 3.6 GPA + around 10 hrs of community service. Its HUGE. I cant say i like it but w/e

NHS Is a joke… colleges look at it and laugh. Its funny, I was never in it, and I put on my application why (because its a joke), and I think that gave me a ton of brownie points.

Harvard_Genius, since when is it a joke? We asked of it at both Wellesley and Amherst Open Houses and it’s one of the few universal honors they commended, all those othe Who’s Who they said were scams and ploys.

That’s nice.

NHS won’t hurt your application, it’s just that everyone and their pet turtle is a member.

Here’s something someone once said on these forums (paraphrasing):

NHS isn’t going to help you very much, especially at top schools. It’s simply an honor more than anything else, and those who aren’t in NHS surely have the credentials to qualify, therefore making NHS almost worthless
