On Michigan’s pamphlets, it says their average ACT for 2015/16 was 30-34 and GPA was 3.85, but on their CDS for the same year, it says their average ACT was 29-33 and GPA was 3.83.
I know it’s not a huge difference, but how are they allowed to fudge their numbers to make it look more competitive than it really is? Is that even legal?
Maybe the average on the pamphlet is the averages for those who were accepted while the CDS is those who enroll. If people with low stats get into a more competitive place, there has to be a higher yield from them since it less likely they got into other top universities compared to people on the top of the range. It makes sense, but there is a good chance I am totally wrong.
