What's UVA known for?

shoebox,

1) not to be harsh, but obviously cool beans didn’t understand “excluding certain professional type degrees” when he said that my explanation was “complete rubbish” and then went on to post an example of the 1 thing i excluded from my generalization.

Take this example.

I say - “The fastest accellerating cars in the world (excluding drag racers) are $1,000,000+ super cars.”

Response - “Thats complete rubbish, drag racers the fastest accellerating cars in the world and they arn’t $1,000,000+ supercars.”

Thats essentially what cool beans said. Maybe I thought it didn’t need to be said, but DERRRRRRRRRRR.

2) I never said a Harvard engineer is better than X school engineer, but you must realize that a Harvard degree, regardless of what it is in, holds more weight than any degree from schools like Virginia Tech, Purdue, Georgia Tech, and even UVa to the average person, and most likely the average employer. You must realize that even though a school may have a great program, they don’t get looks from the absolute best jobs. You can get a job from an ivy league school that someone at georgia tech would never have even known about because the company won’t recruit from there.

this is totally irrelevent, but it’s sort of a pet peeve to see teh wrong data presented but the LSATs are out of 180 not 800…

With respect to the LSAT, that is true today but not back in 1978.

Don’t forget that success in life is also influenced by one’s personality/drive and motivation. The best program or school cannot guarantee anything. A few doors may open, and, certainly, that helps - but you’ve got to push them wide-open, too. Sometimes we don’t recognize an opportunity when it comes our way…So, do the best you can in whatever coursework you’re in, pursue your interest/goals to the best of your ability, try to network with others in your field of interest… People have graduated from prestigious schools and have gone nowhere, too. I know people who attended Joe Blow U, and are doing exceptionally well - to my surprise. Good luck to all of you! :)
