^How was your application “creative?” I’m interested.

I’m pretty sure being female hurts for many LACs.

Oh, and no hooks :)

Oh, and no hooks :)

Well, I guess ‘creative’ was kinda the wrong word; ‘authentic’ would probably be better.

For my EC’s I wrote small little blurbs about each of them that were supposed to emphasize what I got out of them or why they were meaningful to me. My favorite one was the one for my volunteer counselor thing where I said that I still remember making all the kids hug the poor kid that peed his pants. I said it because that was what I remember most about that activity…that poor kid came up to me crying (it was the second time he peed his pants that day!), and I had blurbs like that for all my other EC’s too (they weren’t in the same tone as this one though haha). As well, in the additional info section, I wrote how certain activities - such as reading, talking with my friends about philosophy, politics, sports - were not ‘formal’ but rather were part of my ‘flow of life’ (I still think I’m an idiot for putting that on there lol - changed my mind the send after I hit submit!).

Additionally, I wrote about the reasoning behind my course selection. I took some honors courses instead of AP courses because they fit my educational needs better (I used the example of my US History honors instead APUSH, but said I would only explain that one) and helped me get the knowledge I wanted out of school. I said how I didn’t just want to take AP courses for the sake of AP courses, then said how I believed that I still had challenged myself out of school through taking on the ideas of some of the greatest thinkers in the history of the world (see my hooks).

For my H and Y apps, though, I added another thing. Since they had the ‘write about whatever you want’ essay, I complemented my philosophical common app essay (about how I was a Hegelian synthesis of fantasy and reality - in response to the fictional character one) with a light-hearted essay about random things about me that weren’t apparently elsewhere in my application.

So, I’d like to think that my app was ‘creative’ or ‘authentic,’ but the more I think about it, most of the stuff I did was downright risky and I hope my risks don’t end up biting me in the arse in the end =/.

^That sounds like it could be good/great! I’m sure you’ll be fine :)

im ridiculously good looking

I’m black, too!

I’m god. B1tches.

Pushing environmental legislation in Ohio…

Uhh…midwest might be a plus?

I don’t think that I possess one.

I go to an online school, which differentiates from typical applicants, but I don’t think that classifies as a hook.

im asian and a male… i guess nothing haha. my parents didnt go to college here. they immigrated here. soo… ehh. what is URM? and how do you know if you are it…

Indian dude who plays travel baseball in Canada? does that count

URM is under represented minority. So, african-american, hispanic, people from obscure countries or countries that aren’t really represented and the like
