No hook.
Besides being female and going into computer science engineering, but I doubt that counts.

Being ridiculously good-looking.

First generation college student

Alpha Male.

Nationally ranked in CoD MW2.

JROTC - Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps

I rose to second in command as a LET II, and am currently still in second command and also serving as the battalion operations officer. At the beginning of March, though, I will be promoted to battalion commander.

I honestly believe that this was a HUGE hook in terms of applications. I only had a 29 ACT (but outstanding GPA) and got accepted ED to Vanderbilt. Other students with a higher rank, GPA, and ACT/SAT score got rejected.

No hooks… in fact, I have many anti-hooks lol. Asian + female + non-U.S. citizen = college admissions DISASTER. I suppose my only potentially redeeming quality is the fact that my passions lie mainly in the languages and humanities (my EC’s are all focused in this area), and that I’m planning to be a French or German major in college before going on to become a lawyer.

^^ female is good. Asian guys in Cali have it the hardest.

usamo, good shot at usabo finals this year

I’m from a small mid-western state? haha

So am I, but my rank happens to be about 60,000. Do you think that will get me in?

Seriously though, I’m hoping that my “leadership” will count because otherwise I got nothing. White male with very good but not eye popping stats coming from a very white suburban neighborhood. I can’t think of a more stereotypical person than myself.

I am from Nebraska and an URM.

Represent. (Asian Californian Male. Woot.)

First generation.
URM- Hispanic and Roma.
Grew up below poverty line.
Started/run a youth basketball league.
Well over 1,000 hours of community service in high school.

Oh yeah, and I also cured cancer and won a Nobel Prize. But I didn’t think that counted… it had to be something exceptional, right?

Not so much outside of the hard sciences. Females are the majority of college applicants/students now. It really doesn’t make that huge of a difference yet, though.

Top 30 minesweeper player in CA.

Oh wait, I forgot to put that on my app.

are you serious? omg how did you forget to put that? You’re lucky you’re not going to community college right now.

I have no hooks.
Female, Asian, US citizen…I guess the fact that I live in Hong Kong gives me something to write about. Umm…seriously. No hook D:

I’m black!

I guess I have two kinda hooks, but not really. I reformed my entire school district by myself (wrote up a reform document, sent it to my superintendent, then convinced her to implement some of my ideas. So, I guess she actually did the reforming ;)) and I sent in four philosophy research papers that I wrote (some phil professor at a local uni said that they’re ‘downright amazing,’ but meh) and explained how I wished to build off the ideas in the papers in the future. Also, my application was VERY creative and I highly doubt that they will forget my application (even if they reject me haha). Again, I doubt these are any significant hooks, but hopefully they help me out.

Also, I’ve moved around a lot throughout my life and have experienced a lot of different cultures around the world (and I speak three languages :)).
