What's your stand on interracial relationships?

^Heck, I’m no psychoanalyst. How should I know?

If I did know, anyway, why would I have bothered asking P. what had shaped her preferences in the first place?

However, one could begin blathering about the female’s intrinsic need for security and protection and how larger males help her feel secure and and blah, blah, blah…

Ah the whole biologically fit concept.

That makes sense.

(Although supposedly that is being reversed)

I am plenty secure, but thanks for playing.

“Although supposedly that is being reversed”

Wait, how?

“There is always a reason for attraction.”

Haha, but reason usually comes after attraction :P. It’s also easier to discern the “reason” when you’re examining it from a third person perspective - our own personal “attraction” is more of a feeling/emotion that we don’t normally bother to analyze.

I wasn’t interested in knowing which came first, just what the reason was. :)

Maybe attraction is kinda a biological thing?

@ romani: yes, east africans(somalis, ethiopians, eritreans some northern sudanese/southern egyptians) are black…but not really at the same time (kinda controversial)… I consider myself as black though :]

My stance on interracial relationships is similar to my stance on abortion. It should be legal, but rare.

To clarify (since the last time I wrote this people misunderstood and thought I was a racist who frowned at ALL interracial relationships), I am referring to the macro picture not the micro one. If everyone starts mixing with each other (the liberal fantasy) then I think there is a large societal problem. I don’t really mind at all when faced with individual situations.

Simply put, I believe the majority of people are only attracted to people of their own race due to biological and cultural reasons.

Firstly, I am glad to see your position is not borne out of some deep-seated prejudice within you. However, what societal problems result from large-scale interracial marriages?

This is true.

“My stance on interracial relationships is similar to my stance on abortion. It should be legal, but rare.”

Why should interracial relationship possibly be illegal? It’s only rare now because most people still relate more easily and more comfortably with people that appears similar to themselves, because of historical circumstances, and possibly, as some said, biological instincts - but why is that desirable? Shouldn’t society be more acceptive, diverse, and intermingled?

Whoa. This thread grows quickly.

If I were to analyze myself…

I’ve tried to analyze this before myself, not really seriously, but just musing… it’s kind of hard analyzing yourself. I think I might prefer smaller framed guys, because my dad is pretty petite. Okay, my dad’s pretty darn short (5’5"). I’m short also(5’3"). Anybody familiar with the theory that girls end up marrying guys like their dad, both personality-wise and physically? I think it’s so fascinating… Guys that are too tall/big… wouldn’t that just look goofy? My idea frame is… uhm, about a head or a little bit taller than me, and muscular-slender. It also might have to do with the fact that I’m a teenager still.

I’m sure a lot of it comes from the media too. A lot of Korean male idols are really pretty, and not petite – I like tallness too! – but slender/lean/muscular. Also the white supremacy crap… nobody wants to admit it, but it is pretty deeply rooted in cultures. I don’t mean to say people WANT to be white, but right now that’s what it’s in vogue.

Another reason behind it might be that Caucasian/Asian faces are practically all I’ve encountered these past years. I would think that people are more attracted to There are hardly any black people at my school, and they’re nearly invisible if you’re taking all pre-AP and AP classes. I live in the suburbs, and it’s predominantly white and “brown”. Not many blacks, hispanics, or Asians. Familiarity – that’s a huge reason, imo.

Still, these are just personal preferences. I think across the board, everyone is attracted to things that signify youth, such as clear skin, large eyes, etc. Golden ratio. You know.

and whatever signifies that you are well-off becomes a symbol of beauty. I.e. the pale, milky skin I was talking about – you can find that in so many cultures because working would get your skin tan. I’m sure all of you guys know this.

idk, these are just my guesses and they have no scientific reasoning behind it all XD but hopefully it makes sense?

I still don’t think I like you…

^lmao. :D

10char

^^omg…who actually wrote that? and is that serious? w.t.f.

I was watching Tyra today (Yes, I know…but in my defense, I was less than sober when I was watching) and she said that 75% of interracial relationships were between white men and Asian women.
Where she got this number, I don’t know. She probably pulled it from the depths of her evil, and moderately maniacal, forehead.

Nonetheless, the conversation was…interesting though offensive to women of every race.

In between spurts of Tyra randomly interjecting to discuss herself and her former modelling career “in the day,” the white male guests she had on talked about how they purposefully go after Asian women because they thought Asian women were submissive, whereas women of other races aren’t.
At this point, I through my bottle of Vodka at the television and Tyra interrupted Dave to let the audience know that she once modeled for Sports Illustrated.

That is all.

But seriously, I hope men don’t actually believe that dribble.

If large numbers of people started intermixing, this could not be attributed to natural circumstances. The only way this way would happen is through large-scale government or societal intervention. In essence, large-scale intermixing would require people being coerced into interracial relationships, which I find quite unsettling. PC has slowly crawled into this issue as well. People who say they only want to date within their own race are now labeled "racist. I don’t think this is fair at all.

I’m only attracted to East Asians.

@Purplicious

East Asians love white skin and big eyes. They worship the white look.

Why would it become a large societal problem? I have always seen the mixing as a good thing. I believe that one day, everyone will be mixed and we will be just a huge amalgam of races. Races won’t exist and neither will racism! :)

So personally, I guess I support interracial marriages, although we’re just getting started. It’ll take a long while… but I think it will happen.

do u guys consider east africans as black…?

Just wondering what u guys thought.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_gT7BpUdrO9.../sara-nuru.jpg

http://www.ethiopianreview.com/album...l_DSC_1079.jpg

Give it a rest. Societies are not that sclerotic in nature; things can and do change. What I find unsettling is your belief that the only way people would willingly engage in a relationship with someone outside of their ethnic and racial background is through coercion.

Is this a serious question?

And eastafrobeauty, please edit those links. They lead to some bad pages; CC probably shortened them. Refer [url=http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/misc.php?do=bbcode]here[/url] for tips on how to place links within your posts.

and navyarf, I know. I am one XD I want pale skin and large eyes. No one considers it looking “white” though. It is merely “pretty” to us. That irks me a LOT actually, how people assume Asian girls are desperate to look white (like how Tyra was trying to say in her show), especially since a lot of East Asians have pale skins as long as they don’t go out in the sun too much (thus it became a symbol of wealth; laborers would have tan skin), and big eyes mean youthfulness. Plus, a substantial minority have naturally creased and/or large eyes. Sure, there are Western influences but that’s just a small part of it.

For example. Look up Kim Yu-na on google. She doesn’t look Caucasian at all, but Koreans are crazzzyyy over her/think she’s gorgeous. Including me :)

LMAO. not really…i was just curious…because i think there are some groups of people that don’t ( i remember doing research about my heritage once and came across east africans/horn of african-ers being classified as caucasians…weird).

I think & know i’m black though (and proud, of course :] ).

^ LOL. i have really BIG brown eyes (“ethiopian/arab eyes” as some would describe it) and tan skin (or light brownish). hahaha.
