What's your stand on interracial relationships?

Haha I have to agree
There’s this one Korean/American family… the boys pretty cute :P

I only have the Korean gene in me (I think)
Although the adoption agency said I’m Korean…
so many people have had that at the END of their list! xD
Maybe because I’m kinda tan and have freckles (too much tennis).
Idk! :P

I think that marriages and relationships between different cultures is much more different than between ethnicities… like the language barrier, customs, etc.

So even though I seem to be attracted to Asian guys, our cultures are completely different. So that makes it harder.

My 2 cents!

Yeah lol, I think it’s also exposure, as someone said. Right now the kids in my school are basically either white or black, with a sprinkling of Asians and Latinos. By a sprinkling, I mean, like, five Asians and, like, fifteen Latinos in our entire school. This obviously isn’t a very unbiased or large selection. There’s just not many to choose from. Another thing is that most black students at my school opt not to take honors/APs, again narrowing the selection (I think there’s, like, two that are lol).

Some of you are lucky, going to schools with a diverse body of top students.

Uhh, wouldn’t that make you narrow-minded and prejudiced?

Ughh - can we be more of an asianphile?

And no, the vast majority of Asian girls (like girls of any other group) are not “cute” and are average to below average looking.

Such a view isn’t limited to adoptees, many Asian kids who grew up in a predominantly white area hold that view as well (hence the terms “twinkie”, “banana”, etc.).

Uhh, the Spanish are white. And it’s one thing to have certain preferences (to a degree), but it’s another thing to say that there aren’t any handsome/attractive black males.

A common and unfortunate symptom of being “whitewashed.”

Stop hanging out w/ Southern Chinese who tend to be shorter. Northern Chinese and Koreans nowadays avg. 5’9" in height.

That’s a common misconception.

Large eyes is desired in pretty much everywhere (doesn’t really apply to males, tho).

Most whites don’t have pale, milky skin (aside from certain Celtic peoples), nor do they have slender noses (on avg.).

Otoh, many Asian-Americans who aren’t exposed to Asian media do have that misconception (i.e - An Asian-American girl who wants eyelid surgery would often want to do so to look more “white” whereas an Asian girl in Asia would want to do so to look like their favorite Asian celebrity).

Bingo!

And a lot of that includes media images as well.

There are Asian-Am females (as well as Asian-Am males) who didn’t find Asian males (or Asian females) attractive until they spent time in Asia and were exposed to Asian heartthrobs like Takashi Kaneshiro, Kim Sung Soo, Oh Ji Ho or Won Bin (that’s not to say that they would find every Asian male, or female, attractive).

“Hispanic” isn’t a race or ethnicity, it’s a cultural or language affiliation.

While there are attractive BMs (like any other group), most BMs are average to below average (like any other group), not to mention fat or obese in the US (like the majority nof whites).

And muscles have nothing to do w/ race - it’s just whether weight-lifting is culturally common (otherwise rappers like 50 Cent or LL Cool J wouldn’t have had to go on the “juice”, much less athletes like Barry Bonds).

Also, East Asians have dominated Olympic weight-lifting (but that doesn’t necessarily mean that EAs are the strongest).

For instance. having “chocolate abs” (a 6-pack) has become a rage for Korean male entertainers.

Granted, not every Korean male, much less soldier, looks like this - but it’s not uncommon for members of the ROK special forces.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eybdb4FxxOM

For most Asian ethnicities, the percentage of outmarriages to blacks for US born/raised Asians is around 1% (or less) - the highest would be for Fils at around 3%.

The most common A/B pairing arises from black GIs who have served in Asia.

Among US born/raised - the highest outmarriage rate is for Asian females (at around 38%).

The next highest would be for Asian males (at around 25%).

The outmarriage rates for black females and males is much lower.

It is an ethnicity. As ethnicity is synonymous with culture, and as language is among the most important determiners of culture, your appellations are quite the same as the widely accepted consideration that it is an ethnicity.

■■■■, <3.

Hispanic + Black makes the best looking girls, white + black makes beautiful girls too though

^^ Mill’s right. It’s an ethnicity. It should really be reclassified as “Latino” as most everyone who talks about “Hispanics” is really talking about “Latino/as” and it makes it a wee bit hard for those of us very obviously white Hispanics who are from Spain  (as in, people are highly confused when I put down “Mixed race- white and Hispanic” and then look up to see a pasty white girl with blue eyes).

So close to being right - just 4 words too many.

I’m Asian; pretty much interested only in Asians (mongoloids), white, and Latinos. Not that others can’t be attractive, but I have my preferences.

Ideally, I want to marry a Korean or something close.
There’s something very simple and awesome about sharing the same culture and being able to pass it onto your child.

I don’t have a problem with interracial dating as long as it’s not for some twisted psychological reason like “I’m a white-washed banana! I want to be white but I can’t, so I’ll do the next best thing!” or based on stupid stereotypes like black = strong, Latino = romantic, etc.

^“Mongoloid” is a potentially offensive and very outdated term.

Don’t they use that as a derogatory term for people with Down’s?

^Yes, but it was formerly a PC term, as it was for reference to East Asians.

“^“Mongoloid” is a potentially offensive and very outdated term.”

Mongoloid is an ecological race as biologists define it, one of those three you learn about in High School Biology.

Ehh… I guess it’s also some derogatory term for ■■■■■■■■ people. But that’s not what Mudskipper is referring to.

^Please don’t assume. I haven’t been to the Wikipedia page, but I do really doubt that s/he just made it up.
I guess our sources say different things.

^^ It actually is a little bit offensive, because of where it came from. It came from a guy who was really racist and saw all non-whites as a threat to the white race. It also WAS used to insinuate that Down syndrome was a carry-over from Asian genes mixed in with white genes. It is antiquated, but it was still synonymous with idiot for a long time which is why it’s considered offensive. It’s not used in anthropology anymore (at least, I’ve never heard of it and I’m an anthro major).

But hey, I just study linguistic anthropology, so what do I know? shrug

Ha, sorry. I’m not too knowledgeable on the subject, but I’ve heard the term used before and it seemed appropriate.

I refrain from using “Asian” because it can mean anything from Indian to Chinese. I guess some people might take offense at it, but I don’t because the connection between the race and mental retardation isn’t valid in the first place.

^ Right. I was just explaining why many people find it racist. That’s all. It’s like how I get offended at the word “gypped” but no one else understands lol.

On a similar note, Jew and Shanghai are verbs.

Just throwing those out there.

I think interracial relationships are cool!! well me being filipino/ asian, i’m personally not attracted to asians. i’m attracted to caucasian =]

i’m fiilpino and my gf is a mix of euro countries =]

Not really (“ethnicity” is often misused as a term as “race”).

The makeup of the people living in Argentina or Chile (heavily European ancestry) is quite different from that of the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, etc.

There are still a good no. of indigenous peoples living in S or C America and they are seen as distinct ethnicities.

Brazilians speak a different language and yet, they are usually lumped in w/ Latinos.

Culturally and language-wise, I’m totally “American”, but doesn’t put me in the same ethnic group as an Irish or Italian-American.

The problem w/ that claim is that many Hispanics (or more accurately Latinos/Latinas) are black.

As for the term “Mongoloid”, while some have used it in a derogatory manner, it still is a scientific term (as used by social scientists).
