Whats your "TRICK" for doing well in school?

Besides the usual (attending all the class, doing all the homework), I like to take notes using a couple of different colored pens. I found that it made reviewing notes later on a little easier (and helped keep me awake in class sometimes).

do hw during class (esp. math), and even if the teacher tears up your hw, you still know how to do it better and faster when you do it again and doing it twice is always better than 1x.
Get a group of “smart” people who share a similar class schedule, go to school about 15-30 minutes early and split up the hw and just copy.
This allows me to not do any hw at home and gives me more time; plus teachers tearing up your hw makes you do better on tests because you did everything 2x

I just paid attention in class, didn’t really take notes unless it was something I was sure I would forget later.

Tricks? Ok, here’s some “sort of” tricks.

-Do your homework.
-Pay attention.
-Keep a calendar thing to keep track of test dates, due dates, club meetings and anything else.
-Keep yourself busy. I find that I procastinate less what I have alot of stuff to do.
-We know that nobody is perfect, so when you forget to do that math worksheet, make you have some good friends that let you copy off them. (providing that you return the favor some other time)

Ok, that’s all I can think of.

I actually have two study playlists, a science that I have produced after my ninth grade.

Study Playlist A: Harder, faster songs to “invigorate me”

Includes first half of American Idiot (Green Day) and some more, some metal, Gorillaz, Jimmy Eat World, AFI, and a lot more. I keep it on shuffle. Some good songs to try are “Master of Puppets”, “Bleed American”, and “Holiday”.

B: Softer classics in case of stress

Includes classic rock, Led Zeppelin (Stairway to Heaven!), Beatles (hey jude), Pink Floyd (wish you were here). Red Hot Chili Peppers, too. Classical piano and orchestral music.

i get home at five after an hour and a half of traveling…eat…do hw for the subjects i like and do the rest at skool…for papers i just procrastinate…

Take as many AP classes as you can so homework does not matter.
Use test prep books to get the concepts so that you do well on tests.
Sleep a lot.

oh ya, I find highlighting my notes INCREDIBLY useful. Also, I underline in my textbook lol =P, and it actually helps a lot, because once you underline the important parts, you just read the underlined parts.

Also, about listening to music while doing homework, it’s generally not suggested that you listen songs with lyrics. Lyrics causes your left-side brain to get involved with the song, thus distracting you. Music without lyrics though may help you (it all depends on you though, cuz some people find any time of music distracting)

I blast really loud metal for about 15 minutes before I do my homework. Gives me focus for whatever reason. Usually while I’m doing easier hw, I’ll listen to loud music, too, but if it’s something I really need to focus on, then I’ll keep it silent.

Writing papers is easier when you’re listening to music. I don’t know why, but if the song has good lyrics, you feel a bit more motivated to write.

study hard go pro

SLEEP is way overrated, don’t do it in one session. The ideal is to take a 23 minute nap every 4 hours, and it works – see the accomplishments of Leonardo Da Vinci, Nikola Tesla, Edison, Chruchill, and Napoleon if you want proof… I wish I could use this method all the time, but a lot of activities take over 4 hours. So I usually do 1 of those naps in the middle of the day, or right before sports, then I sleep from 12-5, and do work until 8. Doing work in the morning helps so much, the info is so recent that its hard to do bad in class.

jc2lapcae, how early do you wake up in the morning to do work?

btw, I have 0 period water polo that starts 6:30, so I can’t do squat.

I sleep from 12-5 so I wake up at five, do work until 8 when school starts. Do whatever works for you, go to bed at 10 and wake up at 3 so you have time for work. Just be sure to test your cycle out before school starts, because it usually takes around a week for your body to adjust.

wow, time is really what I need the most at this point, and 5 hrs a day + 23 min/4 hrs sleep method seems really great (that is, if that works). I should give that a try =)

jc2lapcae, do you like feel tired all day or anything? or do you just feel normal with that sleep routine of yours?

teachers who use class participation for more then ~5 percent of final grade for core (science + math) classes are teh tools

Pay attention in class, and try to always attend.

Just make sure you don’t spend 100% of your time studying. There’s no need to become a fat, out of shape, nerd.

lol, Spetsnaz. My Honors Alg2/Trig class in 10th grade (hardest class I’ll take in my life) was

50% Test + 10% Quiz + 40% Final!

^^^ ouch… all of our finals are only 20%

WOW thats my kind of class!! I took Alg2 honors freshman year and HW counted for a lot. I wish it was scored like that :(

lol, forgot to mention there was homework (not counted in percent grade), but if you fail to turn in more than two assignments per semester, you drop a letter grade!
