Whats your “TRICK” for doing well in school?

Weird question, weird answer, but I meditate when I do homework. It helps a lot. I also have a playlist on my iPod called “Study Music”. It’s the best!

i watch tv while doing hmwk and reading

Take organized, comprehensive notes, cram like hell the day before tests, and participate a lot in class.

Hey, what’s on your study music playlist?

I listen to classical music (sometimes) because other types of music makes me… not want to do homework. hahahah. but it’s not these Beethoven, Mozart kind of classical; modern, like… Yiruma’s From the Yellow Room and Kim Yoon’s Remember (i think it’s korean artist?)

yeah, basically, take notes and listen to your teacher. For some reason, I dont read the book(unless its hw) until the day before the test and I do pretty well. I think it’s the homework that counts the most.

participate and keep on task and always read when i’m supposed to.

i’d say school is extremeley difficult taking 4 AP courses a day, and it’s not a thing many can do.

usually, i procrastinate as much as possible and stay up until about 2:00 - 3:00 A.M.

I second Johnny’s comment.

I do my homework the period before its due.

I listen to classical music, smooth jazz, or swing music. That seems to calm me.

For the best results on tests, I suggest studying TWO nights before the test. For example, if you have a history test on Friday, read over the entire chapter(s) on Wednesday and review only your notes on Thursday. One of my most hated teachers gave this advice: “Studying 15 minutes a day for a week or two helps more than studying 2 hours the night before.”

Last but not least, use your weekends. Try to get ahead. Don’t start off on Monday behind.

clean up first

listen to the right music for simple/easy work

take a nap or watch a good tv show before big work

I study for as long or as little as I see fit or can stand. If its only 10 minutes that day, so be it. If I feel like going for 3 hours, I’ll do it. I do what I like to do.
As long as I study something EVERYDAY.

And please use up your sunday! Party hardy on Friday and Saturday, but get more serious on Sunday. Get organized and have your week planned out. You’ll be less stressed, I promise!

i have really bad study habits. during the first week of school i discover which classes i have to work in and which i dont. then i put all my efforts into the harder classes and none into the easier classes.(btw, i do get good grades and i am all APs/honors) i also think it has to do with the fact that i have incredible luck and aptitude.

ask the teacher as many questions as possible

I second shravas, squiggle, and vtran, and I third johnny.

My “trick”? Don’t sleep! Last year I got roughly 4 hours of sleep a night. I dragged out my time in completely individual assignments, and what was worse, I usually got a crapload of work. Coffee and tea became my best friends. (At least for little while.) But hey – I got my A’s!

Do your homework perfectly. Try to get 100% on all assignments. Although it differs from course to course, homework usually counts as little as from 20% to as much as 80% of a grade in the course. Getting 100% on all assignments (which is not at all hard if you actually try…except of course in courses like English where grading is subjective) really boosts your grade.

This sounds pretty basic, but LISTEN in class. In many classes such as Math, Chemistry, Physics, etc., paying attention in classes can save you a load of time, because these courses don’t require as much memorizing but more understanding. If you can grasp the information in class, you should be able to get over at least 80% on exams without studying extensively.

To maximize your brain condition, relax yourself before starting any study session. Many people above have said classical music, which can augment your concentration.

I don’t know about tofu_luck, but not sleeping is a terrible idea. For one thing, lack of sleep severely lowers your brain functioning ability, which makes studying extremely inefficient. However, some people can control their body clock and maximize their sleep, so they feel just as refreshed as they would after sleeping 8 hrs, when they’ve only slept 4hrs. If you need to intake coffee or anything else to keep yourself awake, you are really harming yourself. You just have to establish your own way of studying and get used to it. Once you are well adapted to your “study-technique”, studying really becomes extremely easy. Time and grades aren’t necessarily directly proportional. Studies show that excessive studying can actually hinder with recalling information.

Listening to Mozart because classical music gets me into the “zone.” Nothing to slow though…

Eating and snacking

Once I’m in the zone I don’t quit until I’m done.

I just study lolz

Make EVERYTHING into a competition. It gave me 10x the motivation.
