<p>my son is an incoming 12 th grader. He is choosing the social sciences. Although he has a good aptitude for math, he has not yet taken pre-calc. He wants to take AP Stats. What would be better for him to take pre-calc or stats? He has recieved 4.0 in all of is clasess including AP’s in Bio, US History. World History. Psych , English Comp. and Spanish. He has all 5’s in these except English, where he recieved an 2. Next year he is taking Macro and Micro Eco AP Comp Gov. AP honors in English, Physics , Public Affairs (affliated with Syracuse University) and either Stats or precalc. I need your help thank you</p>
<p>It probably would be a good idea to take pre-calc in high school before heading off to college. Pre-calc would also supplement his physics course.</p>
<p>How does he know that he wants to be a physical science major before he has even taken physics? If he is going to major in physics; he really needs to have calculus done in high school. That is not an option, so pre-calc is a MUST this year.</p>
<p>Is there a way for him to double up on math? If so, then take both. If not, take pre-calc. OR, you could try to enroll him in a stats class at a local community college while taking pre-calc in high school.</p>
<p>pre-calc is definitely the better option. my college, for example, requires calculus for some strange majors (for example Economics) and not having taken pre-calc in high school could be annoying in a few years.</p>
<p>pre-calc is a no-brainer, since Calc is required for some social science majors, not to mention a physical science major.</p>
