My son got the Balfour Scholarship a few years ago - as I recall, it came with a higher guaranteed amount of funding (compared to the typical “Wheaton Edge” summer funding which is also nice) for an unpaid summer internship. He just used that funding this past summer. Congrats!

D24 got in with generous merit and as a Balfour scholar. We are very pleased.

My daughter was accepted to Wheaton and it is currently one of her top 2 choices. But we visited during summer and there were no students on campus. Do any of you who visited during the school year have any impressions to share? We live too far to go back for a second look. Thanks!

My son is currently a Wheaton student, and we found quite a difference between our one summer visit a few months before his freshman year and any other time we’ve been on campus. So I’m linking a few threads or specific posts below that might provide some info. I think @3SailAway and @snappity207 might also be able to weigh in as parents of students who are in the current round of applicants. If you have any specific questions after reading the posts/threads below, I’m happy to answer what I can.

Specific post: Colleges your child crossed off the list after visiting, schools that moved up on the list. Why? - #6895 by 3SailAway

My daughter is a freshman at Wheaton, so I’m also happy to answer any questions about student life on campus! She’s found it to be a very close-knit and social community so far. We’re fortunate that it turned out to be a great academic and social fit for her.

Thank you Libros! Academically it seems like a perfect fit for my daughter. Is there much to do on campus? What do students do on weekends?

Thank you for pointing out these threads, nichols51.

In addition to the usual campus parties and hanging out with friends in the dorm, she’s made a couple of trips to Boston and attended performances on campus. We live about 90 minutes away in CT, but she comes home only during breaks. If you have an Instagram account, campus events are posted to the Wheaton account’s story, which gives a good sense of the variety of events and activities available to students.

Agree that various Instagram accounts show some of the clubs/events/sporting activities. Off campus, my son likes to go to Providence sometimes with friends and has been to the beach a few times and to a concert at nearby Xfinity Center (outdoor concert venue) as well.

My son and husband visited recently. He was admitted with a ton of merit, the summer internship thing, honors and its maybe an hour from us, so I think pretty perfect. My husband loved it, my son was meh- but for very particular reasons. Both thought the campus was pretty, students were friendly and accessible, seemed like there was a ton of investment in the school and gave the impression it was on very solid financial footing. Son did not like that the campus was small and really did not like its location which is “suburban” which is being a little generous. He is drawn to big 10 schools and wants one in a city- I think his short list is going to be Purdue, Rutgers, Pitt, UConn (still waiting on) so Wheaton is nothing like that. I however thought it sounded like a dream school, wish he would go there and wish I could go there. My son also has learning disabilities and I have the impression after doing research that they would be very supportive in that context as well. I am still holding out hope.
