When can applicants begin applying?

As a rising senior, I’m just beginning to understand the college admissions process. Many posters have stressed getting started early in the summer and not procrastinating. So, I have a couple questions regarding when I can actually can apply.

Can I begin sending my application in as early as August? In other words, can you apply too early? Some schools offer rolling admissions and it would be nice to apply in August and get accepted a couple weeks later into my safeties.

Is it possible for me to get accepted to a university in August and September and apply for scholarships separately months later (perhaps after achieving a higher SAT or ACT score)? Or do you have to apply for scholarships along with your general application?
If I were interested in applying for a Direct-Admit Med Program or MedScholars at SLU or something, could I apply for those separately months later?

Thanks in Advance

It all depends. Do a little poking around on your schools’ websites.

I know my safety school was accepting applications in August, at least. And I just assume that all my other schools were accepting applications as soon as they released their applications, which was in July and August.

You are fully able to apply for outside scholarships after being accepted to university. However, you’ll also have to check with your specific schools for their deadlines and rules on institutional scholarships or other scholarships that you receive directly through that school.
