When can I apply?

Does anyone know the date when undergrad admissions for Fall 2009 (Faculty of Arts) will open online? I’ve searched but can’t seem to find the date. Thanks for your help!

For fall 2008 it was after receiving your second term/semester report card. Once you do have your grades just self-report online.

^lol there’s only 2semesters in my school? so do you mean the end of the school year or the middle of the year?

Middle of the year most likely…

Thanks…I was hoping to knock it out in the next few months but I guess I will be waiting a bit

I think rawroo misinterpreted the question…

Yeah…by your attitude I can tell you’re still a bit green about the whole application process (and understandably).

There are no essays on the application, nor is there a place to list EC’s or anything of that nature. This will be the quickest college application you’ll fill out this year (but perhaps the easiest you’ll ever fill out).

McGill doesn’t give a sh1t about your resume, your writing skills, or you (or rather, any insight you could bring about yourself, through essay or anything like that). The only factors in your admission are your grades (all your grades except those from freshman year), and your board scores.

If you’re applying for an entrance scholarship, then you’ll find yourself doing more of the typical application thing (essays, resumes, etc.). However be warned ahead of time that McGill is stingy with their money and only the best of the best get awarded scholarships (with over 6k entering students, and ~ 12k admitted students, you better believe competition is fierce).

The above doesn’t mean financial aid isn’t a possibility, you should just understand that unlike a renewable scholarship, your financial aid at mcgill can easily change from year to year, depending on EFC’s and other circumstances (internal funds and what-not). Personally, I didn’t apply, nor was I recognized for a scholarship, however I was given a 6k bursary (which because of my french-citizenship, was the equivalent to an ~ 1/2 ride). If you’re an exceptional student, they’ll do what they can to make sure you can come (however they do expect you to do your part as well, through the signing of governmental aid).

I hope that doesn’t come off as condescending, I just figured from previous posts that your interest in McGill might be greater than your current understanding of how things work over here. Obviously there are details to some of the things mentioned that you might want flushed out, but for the most part, what I’ve said is general enough to get you where you need to be.

Should you have any questions about the actual process, it sometimes is best to not even bother with these boards, and call/email admissions directly
(Tel: 514-398-3910, site: [How to contact us](Contact us | Undergraduate Admissions - McGill University) ).

People will say a lot about the wait to talk to someone, but I can personally attest that 99% of the time the wait is worth it (unless the question is just dumb, or common sense). The people on the other end of the phone usually will answer your question, and if they can’t they can usually help you find the person who can.

Email takes a bit (time-wise) for a reply, but if you time your messages right (aka leave them at night, so who-ever checks their email finds it in the morning), you can get a reply by lunch, if not, the afternoon. You’ll get a feel for the individual’s email cycles (believe it or not, these people don’t check their email all the time. Or if they do, they sometimes just let the “unimportant stuff” pile up).

McGill Arts does not, there are other departments that do (and are sometimes very picky about the personality of candidates they admit). The point is McGill has a quota for American students and they fall into the Arts category 99% of the time, they’re seperated by SAT and ACT scores based on the strength of applicants in that year.

Perhaps with CEGEP candidates, that is true flyzeggs. However, with americans, such as myself, 99% of what you’ve posted is false.

99% of Americans AREN’T in the faculty of the Arts. There may be a quota for Americans, but they aren’t all hearded into the Arts. Applicants are also sorted by board scores, but this isn’t anything I haven’t already said.

Flyzeggs, I don’t get it. Are you confused, or do you not understand where your experience and where an american’s experience might differ?

I cross-posted this at another thread:

I think the application opened in mid-to-late September last year; it was definitely open by mid-October.

Hey thanks for all the responses…I did know that the McGill app would be pretty sparse on essays and EC’s, but still thanks for all the info. I did not know they threw out freshman grades though, that could hurt me haha.
