when can you RELAX in life?

I think we only truly relax a) as little kids and b) when we pass away

To me, however, the best relaxation is doing what I love with no pressure =)

(an night of Halo 3? hours of cello? swimming easy laps down the pool? a refreshing bike ride on a perfect day? a great book?)

Try meditating. I’m currently reading “8 Minute Meditation” by Victor Davich - the book is pretty easy to follow except the intro is kind of annoying.

When you go to bed at night?

[Inspiration Peak: The Mexican Fisherman](Inspiration Peak: The Mexican Fisherman)

or try watching dead poet’s society.

the thing with me is…when i look forward to relaxing and start relaxing, it becomes boring and i want to do something. Now, life is not to relax. Have fun sometimes maybe but ultimately to succeed you cant really relax other than the little breaks.

take a year off if ure really feelin’ it. and more of a general thing about becoming a doctor, only do it if u really love it. i can’t tell u how many indian brotherin i know that went into medicine for the prestige and parental pressure and seriously regret it. i’m not saying that’s why u are, but really loving what ure working for does make it all a bit easier.

Retirement?

Oh please. Everyone who’s saying “When I become a multimillionaire” is either going to a) be an extreme workaholic and suffer the consequences, both in terms of social life and love life and health, or b) change their minds as soon as they see what real work is.

I agree that week or month-long ‘vacations’ of doing nothing all the time get really boring really quickly. But I believe in enjoying life as much as you can - if you work a lot, please do something you like. Find beautiful things in everyday life - a child, a flower, a lovely view. Find comfort in love, familial or platonic or romantic or, if you’re lucky, some combination.

Don’t burn out. You’ll regret it. You’ll regret not being with people you care about or enjoying the life you’ve chosen for yourself. Enjoy little moments each day. Find things that help you destress and relax - a good meal, exercise, meditation, creating a piece of art. We all need it.

What’s the old adage, “pick a job you like and you’ll never have to work a day of your life,” or something like that…

Perform a simple cost analysis. Is killing yourself for the next thirty or so years worth the brief reprieve at the end? Or would you rather pursue interests which you’ll enjoy, abandon the common standard of “success”, and overall live a far happier life?

Thankfully, my parents will pay for whatever I do, as long as it’s semi-educational, so after college, I’m planning on volunteering around the world for a year or two as my relaxation time.

I also have death. My grandmother was notorious for saying, “You’re tired? After you die, you have an eternity to sleep. Quit whining.”
