I’m currently a sophomore and I started taking SAT prep classes in mid-June (so that would make it around 3-4 months). I first took a practice SAT test sometime around May during my freshman year. I scored a 1670… BAHAHAHA. Now my scores range from 2000-2050. If I’m lucky I can score a 2100. My goal for junior year is 2300+.

When did you start studying for the SAT? How’s your progress so far?

BTW: During the summer, I went to 2 hour prep classes, 4 times a week (2 classes for math, 2 for critical reading and writing).

It sounds like you have money to burn - why not get a private tutor ?

never studied…don’t have money :/. I like to think I did okay though :)

In my area, most of the people go to this particular prep center. My mom set appointments with various private tutors, but the prep classes are what helped the most. It’s a private center, not one of the traditional “chains” like Testmasters, Princeton Review, etc. The student to teacher ratio is pretty small, like 2-5 students per teacher.

I started this summer (June). My score was 1800-2000 on the practice SATs I took from the BB.

Now, it’s October. I scored a 237, 226, and a 228 on the last three PSATs I took.

According to silverturtle’s PSAT-SAT concordance table, which is quite accurate, a 226 translates to a 2310 and a 237 is a 2400.

So I went from a 1800-2000 to a 2310-2390 in 4 months :).

Define “study”. I started taking practice tests a month before my SAT’s each time I took them. Got 1970, then 2050, and hoping for 2100+ on results from Oct. I don’t really see how you study for them other than going over the method. I mean the content is pretty easy except for some of the vocab. Then its just knowing like Algebra 1, identifying grammatical errors, and bs-ing a long enough essay to make college board think you are a good writer.

@Homophobic I would consider “studying” to be taking practice tests, memorizing vocab, and reviewing concepts. I know the test material is pretty redundant, but there are still 2-3 problems on the math sections that get me every time because of the concepts I haven’t learned yet. I also need some brushing up on idioms for the writing portion.

It’s Hobophobic, not homophobic. That would be ignorant! Lol.

HAHAHSH Yeah, I was really scratching my head when I typed that. My bad.

I started studying vocab in around March of junior year, and took 3 practice tests (ranged 2210-2270) before the May date (on which I got 2260). I didn’t study over the summer. Before the recent October test (for which I won’t get the score until the 20th), I reviewed vocab briefly, did a lot of individual math sections, some CR sections, and then took a full practice test (2330) the day before the test.

I started around march of sophomore year I think.

I took the SAT without studying the December of my junior year. I got an 1860, and self- studied almost every day in the month leading up to the March SAT, and ended up with a 2120.

Uh, never? Got a 1400/2070.
