No offense but 3.2 GPA and two 72’s even as an 8th grader won’t cut it into Ivys.

You don’t just suddenly get 4.0s and 98s in grade 12.

^says who? i know people who completely fu.cked up freshman year then turned around.

Um I’m going to be a sophomore. And I got 2 72’s in Accel Math both semesters and that’s because of my teacher, dead serious. She would give us homework and then try to teach us. I had all A’s and one B in 8th grade and a 96 in math.

psh
at least she tries to teach
my chem honors teacher = absolutely horrible
doesnt teacher + use tests from chem ap teacher = 65% class average :/

early_college you can turn it around…in 10th grade I got 2 Cs and a D(6 honors)…this year I got all As and 2 Bs (3 APs 1 honors), and I probably could have gotten an A in calc (had A first semester) if I had stayed committed for the last half of the year.

Thanks and I hope I do, I don’t want to ruin it for college. I’m also in all honors and an AP, so at least I didn’t get it in a CP class. I also wouldn’t call what she does “teaching”, my tutor thought she was lazy because we were in Honors. I may go down to CP Math if I don’t do better next year.

What is CP?

College Prep.

My school has:
College Prep
Honors
Gifted
AP

Wow, I’ve never heard of a system like that. We only have AP and CP, and honors is only for freshmen/sophomores as more of a pre-AP kind of course.

Sorry if this is totally random, but I was lurking on this board. I do agree with jzhang and TerrenceC about the Ivies. Getting into places like Yale and (maybe) Northwestern require ABOVE 4.0 GPAs for your sophomore-senior years, and around 4.0 your freshman year. But then again, every kid who applies to those universities has the same 4.2 or whatever GPA, same super high SAT scores and whatever. If you have standout extracurricular achievements you could get in, too.

Umm… I live in TX.
So I get it during the first week of July? Or second week?

I have never heard of a system like yours either, lol. It use to be this:

Technical
College Prep
Honors
Gifted
AP

They just got rid of the technical diploma/track and everyone gets a CP one, but it says what type of classes you took on it. Also, in my school they offer a lot of AP’s but people don’t have room to take more then 2 a year and most do not do that. So, I don’t know any person who would have that GPA. My school also doesn’t give extra points when you take honors classes. Also, I know in some places a 70 is a C here it is a D and a 69 is failing. So, my 72 could be a C somewhere else. Also, my rank is unweighted so kids with CP classes will be ahead of me. Here is my schedule for my high school career:

Freshman Year-
Accelerated Integrated Algebra I (72)
Honors Biology (B)
Theater (A)
Gym/Health (A)
AP Human Geo (A with 10 points)
Honors 9th grade Language Arts (B)

Sophomore-
Accelerated Integrated Geometry
AP World History
French I
Advanced Drama
Honors Chemistry
Honors 10th grade Language Arts

Junior-
Accelerated PreCal
Honors or AP Physics
Drama
French II (online)
AP US History
AP European History
Honors 11th grade Language Arts

Senior-
AP Stats or AP Cal or CP Cal
AP Govern and AP Micro or Macro
AP Lang or Lit
Earth Science (elective and you need a 4th elective, it seems I would like this type of science better) or maybe AP Environmental Science
Drama
Journalism (Newspaper)
French III (online)

girlrock- I would think you get it in the 2nd week. I’m getting it in the 3rd week I think.

I would just like to point out to most of you who have commented in this thread already that the correct term is “I hope I did well”, not “I hope I did good”.

Just putting it out there xD

I don’t think people care too much, lol. I’m not spending 10 min. on one post.

The way you put this is a bit confusing. There are still a lot of public schools that don’t have weighted grades. For example, I can’t get a 4.2 cum GPA. I get straight A’s in all Honors and AP classes, but my GPA this year was only 4.0.

Personally, I think the better strategy is to take the most challenging classes you can handle and maintain good grades. You probably have a better chance at these colleges if you take very challenging classes and maybe get a B here and there than if you get 4.0’s without taking the most challenging classes you have. That’s my strategy anyhow.
