When do letters/responses go out?

I am applying early decision to Johns Hopkins, but this is really a general question. Do schools send out acceptance/ denial letters on the day which they designate as “no later than,” or do they just send it when they know. If you know that it is specifically different for JHU or for early decision that would be excellent.

I asked a similar question (only for Rice) people seemed to think that it was sent on the deadline stated, not depending on when you sent it in.

ED JHU: December 15 Decisions released

Thanks, although I would have rather the answer be different…

Except for a few schools that send out likely letters or other special circumstances, the bulk of ED decisions are released around Dec 15.

Decision date could change, especially ED date, but everyone will find out on the same date. For RD, ivies will agree on the same date and notify everyone via email. Most of other schools will send out their decisions around the time ivies do.
