I think it was early than that, maybe Jan 23 for the earliest acceptance.

^I think you are right. The first to post in the STATS ONLY thread was January 28. But I just did a search and found two who said they received their acceptances on January 23.

Wow! Jan 23??

I mean I doubt I’ll get my decision letter/response quite that early, but that’s crazy. I’m rather nervous now.

D’s letter of acceptance in the package was dated January 25th, received in mail on 26th. After that she received the Trustee invitation which was dated the 29th, some days after the acceptance. We couldn’t believe it. Totally surprising.

One more week, maybe even this week, the first acceptances will come. It will be so exciting!

Don’t get rattled if you receive a letter that you aren’t being invited to interview for Presidential or Trustee. That does NOT mean you won’t be admitted and doesn’t mean that you have no chance of any merit $. Good luck!

Yes, but not getting merit $ does mean you may not be attending, so these next two weeks are big for a lot of us. Good luck to all.

cboy, there were several post-ers last year who were very disappointed they did not receive merit aid and felt without it they could not attend. Later, when the financial aid offers came out, many found they had been awarded as much (if not more) in financial aid and COULD afford to attend. Try to be patient and things may work out with or without one of the “big” scholarships.

Also, like I said, there are merit awards above & beyond those of Presidential & Trustee that are awarded later, even to folks not interviewed for the first two, so sit tight & keep your grades up.

Thanks alamemom and HImom, believe me I have done my research about the finances of universities, especially USC. I realize that financial aid awards at USC can be significant, but I highly doubt it in my case (well-off family). Therefor, merit is going to be huge for me, because sticker price is pretty huge even for a well-off family. Sorry for rambling, I’m sure you are sick of hearing about kids in my exact same predicament. Thanks for the support. Fight on :D

Sick of students enthusiastic about USC??? NEVER!

Good to hear and hopefully I will be able to keep my enthusiasm next year :D

The Trustee/Pres/Dean’s Scholarships are recruiting tools used by admissions to admit a certain demographic early in order to try and increase the yield of that demographic. There are plenty of other merit scholarship opportunities at USC that may come later in the admissions process. And, if last year was any indication, after they finish their calculations and they have extra money, they increase awards. USC is very generous with financial aid. That is one benefit of being a private university.

I agree with alamemom’s comment!!!

Last year, my S received his acceptance package on the same dates at Sequoia’s daughter. They were mailed on a Friday (1/25/08) and he received them on Saturday (we are in the L.A. area). It makes sense to guess that this Saturday could just be the day for the West Coasters… but the mail took a long time to arrive for some kids last year. Luckily, we were less clued in and didn’t know in advance what dates to worry about–and it made the entire thing less stressful. Hang tight everyone and best of luck.

just wondering… do students who don’t get the scholarship still get some kind of notification that they didn’t get it?

and is anybody rejected at this time?

This is the procedure in past years:
All applicants who applied before the scholarship deadline and did not get invited for a scholarship interview for Trustee or Presidential received a letter from admissions stating that they did not receive one of those. They still could be eligible for one of the other scholarships. This letter was sent out some time in February.

No rejections will go out until the very end (end of April or beginning of May.)

^oops

s/b No rejections will go out until the very end- April 1.

Actually, in 2006, one of S’s buddies got his rejection from USC shortly after April 1 but those rejection letters definitely do not go out early. On the other hand, they do send out letters that you will not be interviewed for a merit scholarship early (Jan/Feb).

S got acceptance letter yesterday (Jan 26) but the letter was dated Jan 23. We are now waiting for the scholarship interview letter!

We are waiting for scholarship letter as well.
