when do the Ivy start to read applications?

Hi everyone !
I’m international student. I had a problem with verifying my SAT score from October 14, 2006. My SAT increases more than 500 points, also on the second test I get 800 for critical reading. Because of that unusual difference, the CB delay my score and finally release it January 31. My scores arrived at all the universities and colleges before Feb 15. My concern is whether it is too late? They probably read my application, including my terrible first SAT score. Does it hurt my chance a lot?

The list of schools I am applying for is:(just Ivy and top Lac’s  )
Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Bates, Smith, Amherst, Swarthmore, Wellesley. Williams.

Don’t worry about it, it’s fine I think. CB should send a note along with it, explaining why. Congrats on your scores, but be forewarned that the international pool is harsh, so in case you don’t get in, it most likely won’t be because of SATs.

And Stanford isn’t Ivy or LAC.

Judging from the OP’s style of writing, I doubt his 800 in CR. But if he did manage that score, he should be fine.

Yea, same. I’m very skeptical the OP got an 800 w/o resorting to unethical means.

I was thinking that too haha.

I think someone could hypothetically do well in CR without a perfect command of the language, as long as they’re decent at reading comprehension. It’s the writing section that would be difficult, as it deals with mechanics, sentence construction, etc.

Not when the OP also mentions he got a “terrible” score the first time, 500 points lower.

I mean just by looking at this past posts there is no way he got an 800.

“damp it, i am soooooooooooo nervous.”

" guy, have anyone here think democracy 100% experimental section? and if yes, reason?"

" true, sparrow. here the fomular:"

and so on and so on.

Yea, how could he do so well on the vocabulary section if he cannot manage simple words??

oh yeah, now everyone is judging my integrity. To tell you the truth, you are so racist. First of all, I admit that my writing is not as good as my reading; the proof is on my first test, I got 450 for the writing section, on the second one, after a lot of effort, I still only can manage to have a decent score 690.

I am proud to admit that I have only learned English for less than 3 years and do it all by myself. I had less than 3 hours a week , 3 months in a year to study with a native speaker. I don’t think that any dude who criticizes me up there can manage to do better than me under such a restricted condition. Plus, I took the first test in June 2005, the second one in October 2006. It is more than a year…

And I am tired of the people like you. You think it is easy for me to verify my test… After all the ETS specialist examination, document examination, board of review, Caligraphy test ? This is all about American arrogance.

Thank to the ground-breaking invention of testpre services, we no longer need to actually master the language but the SAT WORDLISTs indeed! We must be so blessing :(… and to whom do we owe our tremendous gratitude? The Barron, the Kaplan or the Collegeboard?

Despite all the pros and cons, it always comes down to luck…either to be born as a genius, to be gifted with diligence and perseverance or simply…to have goddamned luck on the SAT test day. They’re all the same in the admission pool. Which one are you?

Btw, I didn’t see why there’s such a huge difference between your reading skill showed by the 800 CR (or whatever you just said on previous post) and you writing skill showed by your posts. It seems as unreasonable as someone who can listen but pronounce a single proper word. (My deepest apology if it’s offensive to anyone).

Some international students must also keep in mind that they may have to submit their TOEFL scores (The Test of English as a Foreign Language™ ) as TOEFL measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.

If so, what do you think your own remark is?

Nobody said your English is bad because of your ethnicity or race. We only thought that because of the way you wrote in your post.
And yeah, by basically saying that she must be arrogant, becuase she’s from America, you’re being racist yourself.

I think it is quite suspicious that someone can have 500 point boost after score verfication (OP seems to be alluding to Score Verfication service of the College Board in his first post). I am sceptical about his story because
(1) There are reports of problems with SAT administration in some foreign countries. I heard College Board cancelled SAT administration in parts of China and Korea because of this.
(2) OP’s English writing skills suddenly seem to have improved from his first post to his second post (#9) above.

(I am not racist or an arrogant American. I don’t believe your story even if you were a white American or a brown Indian etc.)

lol why bother haranguing this guy? We’re all on the internet and no one can prove anything either way.

chill out everyone. i got perfects on the act writing, reading, and verbal sections but when i write quick emails i often use bad grammar, or misspell words, because im rushing. if i am writing in french, this is emphasized-- if i write really quickly there are lots of errors, if i take longer i can get it to be decent…i dont think its fair or prudent to judge someone’s verbal ability and especially not their test-taking ability based on one message board post, if it seems unlikely or significant you can just say that but theres no need to jump to conclusions

“if it seems unlikely or significant you can just say that”

That’s exactly what we said.

You guys are very funny. That girl did actually get 800 on CR. That’s none of my business but I could not help laughing. You may doubt the CB, the SAT or the OP since such a huge score increase sounds incredible, but you were too harsh towards the 800 CR girl.

haha. this thread is actually kind of funny.

but i think everyone is kind of being mean towards the poor girl.
