When do the letters come flowing out?

So here I am, thinking that it would be another 3-4 weeks before I get any letter, and then I walk into my first period today and an acquaintance of mine is chatting about how he just got his acceptance letter for UT. I had a confused look on my face and asked him about it. He applied regular decision, same as me, and only a few days before I did. Idk if this matters, but he has a higher GPA than me and I have higher test scores. Also, we are in CA and our school doesnt rank, so it wasnt an auto admit situation. Does this mean that I should be expecting a letter soon, or did they just really want him there and send him a letter super fast?

also, check this thread out too!

and one last thing, is it better to not apply for financial aid? Will this help me get into UT?

Thanks again.

I work with the admissions office as part of the Out-of-State Students Agency, and I can tell you on good authority that out-of-state students shouldn’t be receiving acceptance letters until February. There might have been a few special cases, but I wouldn’t worry about it until then.

Also, I don’t think financial aid has anything to do with it.

Does his status on the UT website say that he is a “leading applicant” and therefore guaranteed that he will get admitted? This is what it says for my son, who is also OOS. The status showed up about a week after he submitted his application, back in November. We haven’t received any letter yet.

Idk about his online status, but he received his actual letter in the mail. I did find out that he applied for Honors program (idk which
kind) and he chose biology as his major.

When during the month of feb should letters be coming for OOS students?

I’m not really sure, sorry!

My son’s decision online came at the very end of February. He eventually got a letter, but I don’t remember when, since it didn’t really matter.

This could just be a false rumor, but pretty much everyone here in Austin accepts the decisions will be released online on February 15th.

Does this include OOS letters? So should I stop checking the site every few hours until Feb? I’m really excited/nervous :)

You’ll keep checking, no matter what we tell you, lol!

It’s odd because I received my acceptance over a month ago and I’m from CT.

This topic was discussed in this thread.

Feb 15th is the magic date, according to several folks who contacted the Admissions. Yes, there were many folks already got in, as in-state as well as OOS.

I check the status page at least twice everyday and I’ve got exams going on. Now that we have a specific date, I can TRY to control myself. :P
