When do you get a raise at on campus jobs?

<p>Is there a set time period at which student employees get raises at on campus jobs? When is an appropriate time to ask for a raise? Every 12 months or so?</p>

<p>D is returning to the same on campus job she held last year. She likes her job and has improved her skills and is told she is doing a great job so she would appreciate a raise this year but doesn’t want to appear ungrateful for the opportunity. is there a Cornell policy on this? How much of a raise, if any, is reasonable for student jobs in this economic climate?</p>

<p>Trying to offer advice but just don’t know what the standard is these days. Thanks</p>

<p>I think that depends largely on the job. I have a friend who worked in a dining hall and got a 25 cent raise every semester I think.</p>

<p>I’ve heard it’s every semester for some jobs. Might be every year for others.</p>

<p>Our kid worked at the same job for 4 years. She was given a raise annually like other staff in the office. She never had to ask for it. She helped with the department’s budget, so she knew her raise was in line with other people’s.</p>

<p>I would suggest for your kid to ask her supervisor. She has the right to know how she is doing and when she should expect a raise.</p>

<p>My D just got a raise - it showed up in her first check this year. (She worked all of last year at the same job.)</p>

<p>I worked one job that gave me a raise every two semesters. I didn’t even ask for one or even expect one. Another job did not give me a raise (grading papers, though pay was decent to begin with). Another job I worked (dining services) supposedly gives raises every year, but I could not last long enough to get it.</p>
