<p>I just got a B in math 33A. It’s a shame, I really love math and I try really hard at it but I’ve always been an awesome writer and I’m really wondering if I should switch if I keep getting B’s.</p>
<p>you sure, you’re doing your BEST? Try to figure out what you’re doing wrong, and attempt the most difficult problems to solidify your mastery of the material. Because a lot of times you need to sweat for the A. Just casually studying might not cut it unless you really really good at math. Also, you sure you can get straight A’s in writing based courses? Think deeply about it…</p>
<p>Keep your options open & keep taking classes that will count toward graduation requirements while you explore. Go to the career placement center – they have materials to help you figure out aptitude & interest. See if you can volunteer or shadow in different fields to get a better idea of what different fields might be like. Do interviews with people in different fields to find out more about their jobs and what’s required.</p>
<p>I got a C+ in Math 1 (yes, Precalculus at UCLA, even though I got an A in high school), a C+ in Chemistry 14A, and a B+ in my GE Cluster (60’s Culture).</p>
<p>My freshman fall quarter GPA was 2.6 ish</p>
<p>It was then I realized Pharmacy was not the path for me. After studying in the library and being interrupted by Asians on the phone, I had an epiphany that law school was the only path for me. That happened Winter Quarter freshman year.</p>

<p>Take 115A before you decide to switch out of math. The subject changes a lot when you get to upperdivs and it might suit you more. Plus, when you get through that you’d only need 4 extra classes for a minor, which would probably look good if you switch to philosophy or something.</p>
<p>There are also plenty of websites with advice on how to study and do well in math classes. It might be worth looking at some of the ideas on those sites and adopting some things that sound useful and doable.</p>
<p>I wouldn’t transfer over a “B”. The curves are harsh at UCLA and half the class gets a B! Yeah, you may get a higher GPA as an English major but everyone gets an A in English courses.</p>
<p>I was in the same boat as you. I have gotten only one A in lower div math (33B) and the rest Bs and one C+ (my first quarter in 31b). I thought I was not suited to major in math field, but math/econ is a pretty good major for people who have taken most of the lower div math classes. You only need Math 61, and 4 upper div math after the 30 series for the math part of math/econ major. It’s like math minor + econ minor kinda. And 61 is pretty easy.</p>
<p>The econ part of the major is easy and though I don’t know what to expect from upper div maths (I am taking 131a or 115a spring), I think the major itself kinda balances the rigor of math and relative easiness of a social science in econ well together.</p>

<p>I realized my major was not for me when I realized that I cared about the grades I was receiving(regardless if they were good or bad) over the material I was actually learning. I switched, and picked a major which would give me the most satisfaction and personal fulfillment from having learned and studied it.</p>
