When do you send an application in?

I know this question has been asked a million times yet there’s still something I don’t get.
**International: Canadian student wanting to apply to Cornell, JHU, Yale, etc.

So if I start taking my SAT’s during the fall of Gr. 11 all the way through June, do the Common App and ship it all down to the states–it’s nice an all that, but there are a bunch of things mission.

1: AP Subject Exams

I have 6 AP courses and 2 regular courses, one being Spanish 12 and the other being Strings 12. The thing is, if I hand my application in during the summer of Gr.11, then how will universities know I’m taking 6 AP courses? (Two of which are Physics and Chemistry–probably my most important courses on the path of being an oncologist).

2: SAT Subject Exams

-World History
-Literature
-Chemistry
-Physics
-Spanish
-Math Lv.1/2 (don’t know if you choose 1 or have to take both)

^If these are all the subject exams I’ll be taking and I’m still learning them in school, then how the hell am I supposed to solve SAT questions in Gr.11 when clearly I’ll learn most of this in Gr. 12?

3: Provincials

With all this going on, how much do my provincial grades matter?

So far I can just conclude that for my grades they’ll be looking at: SAT, SAT Subject Exams, AP Subject Exams, Provincials, School grades… and then there’s everything else like volunteer hours, application, sports and awards, etc, etc.

Am I on the right track or am I totally lost? :S gahh it’s so hard doing this without the support of your parents ;w;

You have your timetable a few months off. Applications are not accepted at most schools until August, at the earliest. Early deadlines don’t come around until November and regular deadlines are in January or even later. Your school will likely have to be back from the summer break before you can finalize your application because teachers and counselors must submit their reports. These include your senior year schedule. Many students start taking SAT/ACT/Subject tests junior year (although fall of your junior year may be a little early- it’s common to wait until after the winter break for the first test). There is time in fall senior year to re-take as necessary. Testing does take some time and attention, but you do have to still keep up your grades. At most schools, your grades and transcripts, including from fall of your senior year, will be the single most important component of your application and a dip in grades senior year can be a trigger for a rejection or deferral.

CommonApp are not available until August 1 each year. It is not possible to submit application before that although you may start working on the essay as the prompts come out a few months earlier. On the CA, you need to put down the courses to be taken and upcoming AP test too. As for subject tests, take them when you are ready but better by the end of junior. Otherwise, the scores would not be ready for applications. You only need 2 SAT2 scores if required except for a few schools that use SAT2 in place of SAT1/ACT. The choice of subject would depend on your performance and the school requirement. Math1 and 2 are counted as 1 subject. Just take 1. The best time to take the SAT2 is at the end of the school year that you have finished the curriculum for that course.
