When do you send AP scores

My daughter is attending college in the Fall. She is required to submit all AP results by July 15th. However, her senior year results are not going to be available until July 8th. I don’t really think this enough time to guarantee that the results will be received by July 15th. Do we send her junior year results now, and then order the senior year ones in when they come out and “hope” they arrive in time? I think I am missing something on how this works.

Don’t worry, they understand that it can take time for scores to arrive from the College Board. Last year, the admissions FAQ said that if they didn’t receive the scores by “10 days after the July 15th deadline” you would be notified in your portal that the scores were late, and given a second chance to submit them.

She can submit the junior results now if that makes her feel better, but it should also be fine if she submits them all at once.

Thank you.

Your student can log into their College Board account now and set up the request. Then they are sent as soon as they are available.

Sometimes, AP scores are sent to colleges before the student even sees them if they select the college as their free score send. It probably will make it on time.

Awesome, ty for the responses. We have set up the request.

I think they are free if you order them now.

Yes, we set the college for the free order. My concern was that AP scores do not release until July 8th and UC Berkeley is asking for them by July 15th. That is cutting it very close. It just sounds like the July 15th deadline is not a hard fast rule.

The College Board doesn’t care what Berkeley’s deadline is, and Berkeley has been around long enough to realize it. Berkeley will get the scores when the CB releases them, and in the vast majority of cases, they will arrive long before the 15th. The only issue will be if a score is delayed. But if that happens, it’s out of your control anyway

New frosh are supposed to start registering for classes on July 18. As long as any AP scores arrive so that you know them before then, you will be able to make class choices in context of the placement recommended for those AP scores.

From another post:

Of the pending AP scores:

  • AP calculus: 3 on AB or BC is considered equivalent to Math 1A, and 5 on BC is considered equivalent to Math 1A and 1B, for most L&S majors that follow the math department recommendations. However, most biology majors are recommended to take Math 10A and 10B instead. Molecular and cell biology has specific recommendations for students who take math courses other than 10A and 10B (for example, because they are doing a second major that requires math courses beginning with 1A and 1B).
  • AP physics: Neither molecular and cell biology nor integrative biology accept AP physics credit to fulfill their lower division requirements.
  • AP English language: score of 4 or 5 fulfills the reading and composition A requirement, but that is already fulfilled by the previous AP English literature score of 4. Student needs to take a reading and composition B course.
  • AP government (which one?): does not fulfill any L&S requirement or biology major requirement, although if the student has not already fulfilled the American Institutions requirement, AP US government score of 3 will do that.
  • AP economics: does not fulfill any L&S requirement or biology major requirement, although if the student has 4 scores on both AP economics exams, that fulfills Economics 1 as a prerequisite for more advanced economics courses.

It mostly looks like the pending AP scores are unlikely to matter in course selection, if the student is aiming for a single major in MCB or IB, since the suggested placement for Math (10A), reading and composition (B course), physics, chemistry, and biology is unchanged based on the pending AP scores.

Just a PSA - if you sent the free report by the June 20 deadline, AP scores for this year and all previous years are in CalCentral now.

Yes. I will try to help people in the future with this. It would have been nice to know that the college you select for the free report, actually gets the scores like a week early. So the deadline, even though it appears close to the release is a non-issue.

And it sees to be true for many schools. Most of my kid’s friends found their scores in their portals for whatever school they are going to.
