When do you start asking for information?

My DD is still too young for boarding school. However, the time time is getting closer with each year. Should she start asking schools at the end of 7th grade or the start of 8th grade?

Do the essay questions change from one year to the next?

For the students… when did you start posting questions here or asking schools for info?

I started requesting info May of last year, but I didn’t start posting on cc until this past November

You should definitely start looking at the end of 7th grade…May or so. And think long and hard about it during the summer. A good place to start is boardingschoolreview.com or you could borrow the Porter Sargent’s Private School Handbook from the library. About.com also has some good tips on the process. In fact, here [School Search Process Timeline - Timeline for the School Search Process](http://privateschool.about.com/od/choosingaschool/qt/calendar.htm)
is a good timeline to follow. As you can see, it tells you to start looking for schools the May before (7th grade).

I’m not sure if the essay qs change or not. But you could look over them now just to get an idea of the process involved.

I joined CC during the summer when I had lots of free time to browse around the forum to get some information (and misinformation - after all this is a forum). And although I starting looking for schools in May, I didn’t get real serious (scheduling interviews and stuff and choosing definite schools) until September.

I started looking at schools at the end of seventh grade, but didn’t start asking schools for information and posting on here until eighth grade. It wouldn’t ever hurt to start looking at schools early to get familiar with them and such.

It depends on the school whether or not the essay questions change, I would assume.

I started in November of 8th Grade… a little late, but you can still get stuff done over the winter break (like i’m doing right now)
