D’s last final was on 12/14, but she did not come home until 12/18 because of a home basketball game she wanted to attend. Classes start back on 1/9, but she is going back tomorrow because of a home basketball game as well. She also will not be home for Spring Break and is planning on a summer job in June and July in Colorado, so we will not see much of her.
My DS, on a trimester schedule, got home just before Thanksgiving and classes started up again just after the new year! So he was home for all of December, instead of all of January like most students. He is going back to school a few days late though, due to big job interview that couldn’t be scheduled earlier, but I think it’s worth it for a graduating senior!
Mine is off until the 22nd but only stayed home (10 hours away) for 4 days, sigh. He visited friends before he came home, then left the day after Christmas so he could spend his birthday and New Year’s with his gf. Then he went to visit friends 2 hours from campus. Yesterday he drove to campus to drop his stuff off in the frat house and buy books before the rush and pick up clothes for a trip to Evanston, Ill for the frat. Then he drove back to his friend’s for the night. Today they all drive from KC to Iowa to meed their frat advisor who will drive them on to Evanston where they are for a few days and then do the same trip in reverse. Then he goes to Wichita to get his gf and drive to meet us in Taos for his sister’s birthday and a ski trip. After that he is back to Wichita because it makes no sense for him to come home before going back to campus for 9 days. I’m not sure if he has figured out where he is staying those 9 days. He has a lot to do so I think he is hoping he can move into the frat house early. (He is president this semester so they may let him).
S finished exams by December 14, and classes start January 29 at his large state flagship. 6 weeks is a long break, so he is taking a winter course. Most of his friends are taking a course, or working a few hours at their job from the past summer. Also know a few doing study abroad.
^Wow, that’s the longest break I’ve heard of!
Mine goes back this weekend and starts classes on the 7th. She was home for 3 weeks. Big state flagship, midwest, on semesters.
6 weeks is waaay to long. At least S willingly agreed to take the winter class. My older S had 3 weeks from the quarter system university, and that was just about right.
My D at Northeastern came home really early in December, she had all online Finals. She goes back this weekend. My S ended Finals on 12/14 and starts back up 1/22, but has to come back home that same weekend to run a large event.
DS’s school typically has shorter breaks, but this year it is almost 3 weeks. It is very likely he will be working somewhere far away from home next summer, so trying to enjoy the family time now.
My son got home 12/15 and started working at the company I work for on 12/17. I put him on a plane back tomorrow morning for a 1/7 start to the semester. He’s on the road for my company as I type this. He’ll have a few thousand extra dollars in his pocket for the Spring.
Williams College:
Son came home on Sunday 12/16. Some people still had finals on Monday 12/17, the last day of finals.
The one-month Winter Study term began on 1/3, so he is back already.
The kids all love Winter Study, so it is a good thing for the kids. But my one regret with his having picked Williams is that we don’t get to see him for a whole month like other parents get to see their college kids!
These first couple of days after he left, neither he nor my husband nor I slept too well. We had to adjust back to being apart. It is hard! But he is happy with his college and friends, so that helps!
D came home on 16th and went back on 26th to make practice that night; Non athletes return on 1/21. Only reason she was able to come home on the 16th was because all her finals were papers so she did not need to stay to take an in class final.
S17 got home on 12/14 (all four finals bunched up in three days at the beginning of finals); goes back to Montreal on 1/6. He’s lucky because finals ended 12/21…last year he had the very last final time slot both semesters. His friends are heading back to college over the next several days so he is ready to head back to school.
Quarter System
S returned Dec 14 and will return on Sunday Jan 6. We’ve had a great break. Now, Back to work!!
D’17 is at community college. Their semester starts 1/7, but her only Monday class was just changed to online, so class for her really starts 1/8. But first, an internship interview on 1/7 in the afternoon! She really wants this one [-O<
She has gone between her apt and our house over break, amazingly she wasn’t scheduled at Target for 6 days in a row so lucky D’19 got to have her sister around a lot.
Our son came home 12/21 and leaves on 1/6. We’ve had him a few days longer than usual this time. Yay! He’s spent most of his time sleeping (as always), making dinners for us (trying out the sous vide he got for Christmas), working on his car, revamping our home network, and he hit it off with a nice young lady at our neighbor’s NYE party, so there’s that.
My D was home 12/9 (no finals) and had to be back 1/2 to start student teaching on 1/3.
Quarter system for mine. She came home on the last day of finals 12/14 and will start classes on 1/7.
S flying right now as I type, on his way back to prepare for the upcoming final exams. He came home on Dec. 20.
My daughter came home for a few days the week of Dec 10th then went back to take her last final on Dec 17th. She goes back on Jan 14th and classes start Jan 15th then they have a long weekend.
