<p>using either in an essay would sound awkward, at best. Try to leave that aspect out of it. Don’t talk to the admissions committee, show them why they should accept you.</p>

<p>I used If and when. That may not be the best thing. I got in, but I do recommend just using if to refer to that college and using when to refer to going to college in general. Like “If I am accepted” and “when I go to college”.</p>
