Hey all, I’m an international student looking to study in the US. I saw Pitt has rolling admissions and I was wondering if I could have a chance if I applied now (March 28th/29th)? I am an IBDP student with a 42/45 predicted, my freshman and sophomore grades were about 3.6 - 3.7 (there is no proper conversion). I would like to apply to the main campus for neuroscience. Just wanted your opinion on if you think there is a chance to get a spot this late.
Since neuroscience is a popular major at Pitt, my guess is that you will be waitlisted if you apply now. But it might be worth a try.
Or “branched” ie., sent to a smaller campus for 2 years.
To increase your odds, look through ALL majors offered and choose one that’s unlikely to be full already (ie., not biology-related nor neuroscience) AND matches your current course selection/academic strength. You’ll take gen eds 1st semester -and can choose to take neuroscience pre-reqs as gen eds if you wish- then will switch at the end of 1st semester like most freshmen.
In May there will be a list of colleges that miscalculated yield and still have spots, many still with financial aid (sone with merit scholarships).
hm, what if i applied to computational biology? I was kind of in between those two majors.
Do you have CS/statistics courses or experience/ECs?
I really don’t know, but I would imagine fewer students apply for computational biology.
I have HL: Bio, business management, english lang and lit and SL: math AA, spanish ab, and history. for 9th and 10th grades I had a bunch of courses, one of them being CS, and I had a 10/10. (it was more web designing but we had some coding)
Are you looking for financial aid? At this stage, that will be a problem.
no financial aid will be needed
I guess you can try… check out their Honors college conditions too.
As @Lindagaf said, if you need financial aid, it’s too late at that point (and Pitt is stingy even at the best of times).
I believe Pitt is accepting applications for fall 2024 until April 1.
Edit: I see the answer about financial aid.
In that case, welcome to Pitt, probably
thank you for that :DD
Keep in mind that due to the date you are likely to be branched and if for a PA resident it’s an opportunity to show what they’re capable of, it’s really not a good choice for an international.
What are your other choices?
what do you mean by ‘if for a PA resident it’s an opportunity to show what they are capable of’?
another kind of safety is probably penn state
I think @MYOS1634 meant that going to a branch campus would be more suitable for a PA resident than an out of state or international student.
Penn State would not be a safety at this point in time. You would probably be offered a waitlist or branch campus there, too.
So you are wanting to send more apps? And your current options are Drake, Wagner, or SUNY Buffalo?
Arizona State and U Arizona are both still accepting apps…but hot weather.
Other ideas (you have to confirm these are still accepting apps): Western Washington and Michigan State
I am wanting to send more apps yeah :)), and thanks for the suggestion!
How about some of the midwest flagships? I’m not sure which if any are still accepting applications, but check out Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, Missouri, and others.
Since you don’t need financial aid, there are many schools still taking apps. Are you interested in LACs? These are smaller schools say 2K students…and the ones still taking apps likely won’t be in major cities. Let us know the important criteria again and we can make more suggestions.
I do think you should put in an app to Pitt. They might not branch you as a full pay international (because they know you would be unlikely to attend then.)
Adding U Dayton for now…again see if they are still taking apps. If their app is active in common app, they are still taking apps.
