When is rush week? Also, what are some of the top academic fraternities?

You will be given the rush week details when you are on campus, but typically rush week is in early September

Sigma Alpha Epsilon (sig ep) and FIJI are both known for having a high GPA. However, houses are very different, so go in with an open mind.

According to the Orienter New Student Guide 2013 my son brought home from orientation, “Beginning Sept. 2, 2013, men interested in Greek life can attend meetings in their residence halls.” And “IFC recruitment officially begins Sept. 14, 2013 with an open house-style event in Dunn Meadows where rush chairs from each chapter will be present to talk with potential members.” Hope that helps.

To add on to what hoosiertake2 said:

SigEp continually has the highest GPA on campus, FIJI’s are up there too, but their rush process is in the summer before your freshman year and you begin school as a pledge living in the house, mainly kids from Carmel.

You’ll find fraternities that are preppier generally have a more balanced mix between partying and academics. For instance, Sigma Chi and Beta Theta Pi. Phi Kappa Psi and Phi Delta Theta to slightly less extents.

The key is to go into rush with a pretty open mind, see which houses you enjoy, then go from there. I say pretty open because I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing to rule out houses because of their partying reputation, which you’ll figure out pretty quickly is ATO (Alpha Tau Omega). They party on tuesday and call it Tausday. Other than that, rush is a blast so don’t forget to enjoy yourself!

When is the Spring 2014 Rush week?

Ive heard Sig Ep has the highest overall GPA

Spring rush for men used to start in Late January / Early February, but it might differ this year because of how girl’s rush has changed. SigEp traditionally has the highest GPA, but many other houses are close behind. Personally, I am a brother in Delta Tau Delta, and while our house GPA is on the lower end, many brothers maintain GPAs above 3.5. Basically, GPA is a personal factor, so choose a house based on the guys because your brothers will be the biggest part of your Greek experience.
