when is the right time to really consider transferring?

i’m a current first year at Sarah Lawrence and we’ve only been here for 3.5 weeks but i’m really struggling. i’ve been diagnosed with depression/anxiety for the past 6-8 years and was doing very well but since coming here i’ve declined very rapidly even with my medication and help from health&wellness services.
there isn’t enough to keep me busy (3 classes = full course load; barely any homework just short/easy readings; barely any interesting clubs) and i feel stifled by the campus. i feel better off campus than i do on campus, and when on campus i am overwhelmed by feelings of wanting to leave or be anywhere but here.
just to clarify: i’m not homesick, i really like New York (i’m from the south) and i love the liberal atmosphere of the school, but it just isn’t working out for me. like i said, i’m really really really struggling. i have a few friends, but there isn’t enough to keep me occupied academically or extracurricularly.
i already spoke with the associate dean in charge of first years and she didn’t offer me any solutions, just sort of told me to try and make it work.

when is the appropriate time for me to realize i should transfer? and is there ever going to be a school that’ll be the “right fit” for me if/when i do transfer?

I would seek out the counseling center at the school.

My son recently transferred schools and his anxiety skyrocketed. My advice as a parent is to talk with your family. The health services at many schools are very disjointed and you often have to wait for appointments weeks down the road. There is no shame in attending a school near your home where you can be near friends and family. If you don’t feel better soon, please consider a counselor in the community or see if your family doc will speak with you over the phone. There are medical withdrawals that also can give you time to sort things out for your next step. Health and happiness come first.
