Hi!
I’m a senior currently in my final semester of high school. While I would usually not tell this, since this is an anonymous site, I’ll just leave it here for some background.
In the summertime my dad was diagnosed with stage three cancer. As you can imagine, it’s been quite hard on our family.
I don’t intend to get any sympathy. Through my own faults, I’ve received an F in AP Economics my first semester. I’ve always had a GPA of 3.8. My GPA this year, weighted, is still a 3.7.
I’d just like to know…is there any way to get into any of the UC’s now? I’ve applied to UCI, UCSB, UCSD, UCR, and UCLA (which I really never had any hope for lol).
Extracurricular wise, I’m in four clubs. I’m the Vice President of one, and the UCC rep for one. I’ve been in two of them for four years. I’ve been in marching band for four years, and was a section leader for two.
Outside of school wise, I have volunteered at my local shelter for 2 years at three hours a week. I was part of my church activities up until junior year.
The AP’s I’ve taken all throughout high school are Euro, Calc AB (senior year), Psych, Biology (senior year), English 11, US History, and Microeconomics which I failed since I was so invested in the other 2 AP’s I was taking last semester and my family life…
I’ve been accepted into Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal State Long Beach. However, since I broke the contract, I know there’s a good chance I’ll be rescinded…
I’m planning on getting in contact with all of the schools I’ve applied to regarding this.
It looks…totally uncharacteristic and lazy on my transcript. Any opinions? All are appreciated. Thank you!
So sorry to hear about your Dad. Since you have extenuating circumstances in regards to you receiving an F in AP Econ, I would get my GC involved and them contact the CSU’s and UC’s on your behalf. You do need to email the UC’s with the F grade but maybe the GC can include an explanation with the email. Again, with the CSU’s, I would have the GC contact the schools and provide an explanation. Most schools do not want to rescind and most are willing to work with you to come up with alternatives. You need to be proactive, since waiting until the final transcripts are released, may leave you with no alternatives. Best of luck.
