<p>Should I attend out of state?
I live in Texas and the college I want to attend in irving(The University of Dallas) cost 50k a year, UT dallas which I applied to cost less but I applied to Minot and Minot cost less than these colleges I applied to:
Dallas Baptist Uni
Angelo State
University of North Texas
Colorado State boulder
University of Alabama did not offer me enough so i declined
UT Austin i missed deadline for spring semester(I am transferring from a community college to spring semester at a uni)
Minot State total is:$13,430 and that is with room and board
UT Austin is still more $13,548 so even if I wanted to attend i missed the deadline.
I have 2 younger sisters in universities, no one is helping me pay tuition I live with my mom and go to a community college. However, it gets old after taking the bus for 2 years and the college is an hour away on the bus</p>
<p>UDallas won’t be affordable. Neither will Colorado and some others.</p>

<p>Minot charges the same for in state and out of state. They are the only college that does for a fact, but there may be others. I also believe Minot offers scholarships for transfer students. Do you qualify for pell? </p>

<p>I checked transfer scholarships at University of Dallas. Even with those it will still be pretty expensive.</p>
<p>The bottom line comes down to how much you can pay for college with whatever your parents are willing to pay. What local state options do you have if you continue to commute from your home? How much would it cost you? </p>
<p>Minot looks like a nice find price wise. Same price for in or out of staters. You would probably need about $16K a year to swing it, because you need to include travel expenses, books, supplies, sundires as w well as tuition, room and board. It comes down to whether you can come up to close to that with parental contribution, your earnings, Pell if eligible. loans and if Minot will give you some scholarship/fin aid as well. </p>
<p>Also do some research on the school and think about whether this is for you, if it is affordable.</p>
<p>Some other schools in the Dakotas are low cost for non-residents (e.g. South Dakota State, which has a small non-resident surcharge). University of Minnesota - Morris also does not have a non-resident surcharge, but is more expensive than Minot State or South Dakota State.</p>
<p>I do not even know how I am going to get to Minot. I have no income coming in.
mom2collegekids: UNT(Denton) & Houston Baptist. My sister at UNT does not work and I have no idea how she is paying for college because both of my parents only give both of, my sisters spending money. My other younger sister at HBU before she got married worked 2 jobs at HBU<br>

Minot has an available scholarship for transfer students. I was even given the application early.
Is there something wrong with Minot State why is out of state the same price?
I also applied to UNT Dallas which is a state university but it has no dorms, etc. I guess I grew tired of taking the bus to community college. I had fun at my community college but it would be nice to be within walking distance of a university.</p>
<p>I looked up all the schools expenses books tuition room board miscellaneous. It is quite odd how Minot cost less. I read on this forum that Minot is predominately white. Is that true?</p>

<p>@mom2collegekids yes. There is a UNT in Dallas it is closer to my city but I will still have to take the bus and commute until I get enough money to get a car</p>

<p>I don’t think there is anything “wrong” about Minot because of the price. South Dakota is not a heavily populated state, so it is looking to attract out of staters. It probably is predominantly white, again because of location. Look up information on it. Certainly include it as an option. It might be quite an adventure and change for you to go there if you can swing it financially. </p>
<p>Basically, ask your sister what kind of aid does she get. Pell grants, loans, grants form the UNT. Have her help you out in the app there, and see if you can get a package like hers that is doable for you so that it too is an alternative. </p>
<p>Also look at all of your local options. Talk to whoever works with those ready to transfer out of your CC and ask where some good low cost options are that have some nice awards for those coming out of your CC.</p>
<p>Run the Net Price Calculators on these schools’ websites and tell us the results.</p>

<p>I just talked to unt denton’s Financial aid office. I was told the pell grant & loans but she said since its in the spring she does not know if any other type of aid is available. I apply to scholarships at external websites and my current college still</p>

<p>[MSU</a> - Financial Aid Office](<a href=“MSU - Minot State University”>MSU - Cost of Attendance) gives a higher price for Minot State before subtracting financial aid. Or were you subtracting Pell grants from the prices?</p>
<p>@ucbalumnus I requested a scholarship application from Minot State. Along with the application I was given a flyer in the mail recently and I was given the total cost of a student that attends 4 years that includes room and board which was $46,387 I divided that number by 4 and got $11,596.75. Online the total cost(this includes misc and transportation is $16,196.00 I am going to call tomorrow and ask for an official estimate. The tuition on my flyer I was given says $6,208 & the website says tuition is $4,820. This sounds like conflicting info. So I will have to call tomorrow and discuss it.</p>
<p>Even with a higher total Minot State looks like it still cost less than my IS colleges I applied for</p>
