When people don't vaccinate their kids

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Life comes first. And if your POH threatens my life than Thomas Jefferson’s ghost might be coming after you.

Health laws have existed since biblical days.

Vlad, in your world, do you think you should be allowed to ride a car wherever you please? In a mall, in a park, on sidewalks? After all, it should be up to everyone else to get out of the way, right? Can’t move because you’re in a wheelchair? Must be natural selection!

Nope. Show me any legislation in the US that allows for that.

To prevent this from becoming a several post discussion, they can be forced to stay X distance from schools and such. You can’t walk up to one and then demand they run away from you.

Beyond that, a kid being unvaccinated has committed no criminal nor moral offense, and it’s a bit ridiculous to compare the two.

Nope. The got it because they contracted the polio virus from someone or something contaminated with it.

No, you can choose to not drive a car. Your natural state is not driving a car. We weren’t born driving cars. It’s not remotely comparable.

So has slavery… Maybe I’m not understanding your point. I think society has evolved beyond what things were like in biblical times…

That’s splitting hairs. Their bodies would have had a 99% chance of fighting off that virus if they had had the vaccine.

Does anyone remember logic from High School math?

They caught it because they were not immunized. Playing semantics is unproductive to a conversation.

You are not an “anti-vaxxer” as it means someone who opposes vaccination. It looks like you are a libertarian on this subject (note: in some countries, those called “libertarians” in the US are called “liberals”).

PLEASE don’t make this a political discussion. That will not end well. <<<< listening For sounds of gates crashing shut and a large key turning in the lock>>>

Perhaps we should require of non-vaccinating families what we mandate for sex offenders- that they go around the neighborhood and inform everyone of their status. At least then those of us who do believe in vaccination would know who to stop calling for play dates for their kids.

I know that’s harsh, but these diseases can be deadly to someone with a weakened immune system or who can’t be vaccinated for legitimate health reasons.

When I was undergoing chemo my daughter came down with whooping cough, despite being vaccinated. At first her boarding school wouldn’t release her to us because of the risk to my health. She was sick for months and it affected her grades. It was not something to be taken casually.

Time to reopen leper colonies, vlad?

If I’m the one making this political I’ll make this my last post in this topic.

If you don’t think that we should mandate the same from murderers, burglars, arsonists, AIDS patients, etc. Why not?

In response to greenwitch’s post all I could think to respond was “so what” in in response to yours all I could think to respond was simply what I’ve responded before.

I lifted this link from the fbk pg of a friend’s daughter who is a postdoc in molecular genetics

Actually, it’s possible to look up the arrest records of your neighbors on line if you so choose.

As for AIDS, since you can’t contract it from casual contact I don’t think it’s anyone else’s business.

You can from casual contact with blood.

None of these other people put others at risk without intent/contact. And I really dislike grouping AIDS patients in with criminals.

I dislike grouping AIDS patients with criminals too. Just the same as I dislike grouping unvaccinated children with them. I literally found Sue22’s post offensive.

Nicole Rafferty should have met my mother (post 1008). My mom suffered from whooping cough her whole life. She got sick as a child (no vaccine then) and had trouble breathing for ever after. She was always out of breath and the quality of her life suffered. The aftermath was more than “a couple of weeks”. Idiot.

Contact with blood is not casual contact. You cannot get AIDS from sitting on the bus next to someone with it, using a phone someone with it used or shaking hands with someone with it. You can contract diseases like measles and chicken pox in those ways.

Unvaccinated children are not “criminals” but they do put others at risk.

Do you think people with ebola should refuse to be quarantined when they are contagious? They’re not criminals either.

If an AIDS patient bleeds on something and someone touches it they can get HIV right? So if an AIDS patient had a cut they didn’t realize and got blood on, say a stairway rail, and someone touched it they could get HIV right?
