What are you talking all about? I know this is not about getting disability. This is about getting an exemption and opting out of a shot for whatever reason which people can and do, do. I suppose you can call it selfish in that they are thinking the risk of measles killing their kid is not worth the risk of the vaccine but the problem is they have a doctor who will agree with them and will sign the papers. Anyway, I still think especially in a S CA tourist hub you have a lot of unvaccinated people who are not the spoiled brat anti-vaxxers but they are an easy target.
What are YOU talking about? You said you got “disability” during pregnancy. Just trying to clarify.
Yes, I did and it was very simple. The doctor signed the paper and I mailed it off somewhere and little piddly checks appeared in my mailbox for a few months. But, I don’t know what that has to do with vaccinations.
Romani and I are asking for clarification because you may get a temporary handicapped parking tag or possibly some specified temporary “disability” if you are hospitalized for a protracted time or put on bedrest or something. But that is VERY different from being declared disabled, ,and the implication that its super easy to get with the swipe of a Drs pen is not accurate. YOU are the one who made this statement. We are just asking for clarification. Otherwise it sounds disengenuous.
It sounds like you are saying your employer gave you short term disability with a Drs written note if you were not able to work. Short term disability from an employer is a whole other can of worms. Sorry, but Drs do not declare people “special” (whatever that means) and instantly these people get on the federal coffers or some “exemption”. It does not work that way, though getting a Drs excuse to get out of gym is probably less challenging than being declared disabled. They are quite different situations. These sweeping overgeneralizations made as if they are fact misleading and factually inaccurate. In your words, “so there you go”.
Is there some dispute about whether it is possible to opt out of vaccinations? Because people are doing it.
You are changing the subject. I am responding to what you wrote in 1606 and 1611 because , NO, we DON’T already know that people can be exempt from practically anything for any reason because, frankly, these proclamations are preposterous.
Okay, what exactly is a personal belief exemption then?
Maybe its an attempt to get excused from an exam because it is your personal belief that you will fail.
You are mixing apples and oranges
A personal belief exemption - which only very few states allow - is basically saying that you can for any reason decide not to vaccinate.
It’s basically a Libertarian philosophy although I don’t know why Maryland allows it since they are very much a “nanny state”.
“You are mixing apples and oranges.”
No, I’m really not. It’s a real thing. I agree, it’s stupid. But, this is the “special” thing that Dietz has been highlighting repeatedly throughout this thread. We are taking about California. It exists.
Say what, marie?? This is ridiculous. I can’t speak specifically for one state, but then again I didn’t see a word about this referencing any one state. And frankly, the blanket statement that anyone can get a Drs note for any exemption they please and expect to get out of <<<< fill in the blank whatever>>> is ridiculous. And where did either you or deitz say word one about California or this belief pertaining only to California? Please point it out because its not there as far as I can see.
Well, the discussion is about Disneyland and the OC and Marin anti-vax community. So, maybe the California part of it got lost somewhere but that is the CA situation. And, the quack doctors are plentiful. It’s not a problem to get exempted.
Maybe Disneyland was mentioned this morning or several pages back earlier this afternoon, but deitz’s link this afternoon, after someone posted about the loony-tune Dr in Arizona, was about the FEDERAL education law. So if you are trying to reference some conversation from pages ago, you should be clearer. That, or stop with the ridiculous, inaccurate sweeping generalizations, presented as fact. As you say. “and there you go”.
I don’t understand how being pregnant is the same as being disabled.
I had to go on total bed rest with two of my pregnancies. I only was allowed to get up to use the bathroom and I was NOT considered disabled, although I did take an unpaid medical leave.
All states allow medical exemptions, Mississippi and West Virginia, * only * allow medical exemptions.
The rest of the states allow religious exemptions, and 18 states allow personal exemptions.
wrong thread
The disability thing probably varies state to state, too. It wasn’t anything I cared about but when the Dr’s receptionist offered me the form I filled it out and the doc signed it. That’s about it.
A religious or personal exemption sounds like an all clear to me. Who is going to successfully challenge such a thing and how?
I was on total bed rest for 4 pregnancies. I was considered ‘disabled’ and received long term disability that I had purchased through my employer. The employer paid for the first 6 weeks then it went to the insurance company. However this is not the same as a person who is disabled permanently. Plus, I don’t see what this has to do with vaccinations…
EK, it is because your pregnancies were before the changes in the law. Employers are required to make reasonable accommodations for pregnant women.
There is a huge case in front of the SC now about the limits of the law (Young vs UPS)
EXACTLY, michigangeorgia!!
