When should I send in my UC applications?

Deadline’s November 30. I go to school in China.

So I’m still working on my 2 essays, so I’d like as much time as possible.
I’ve asked a few ppl, and most recommended me to send it in 3-5 days before the deadline.

A few questions:

 1. Do the UCs send a confirmation email saying they’ve received my application right after I send it, or is it 4-5 weeks later, like I’ve heard?

What else needs to be sent out? On the site, I can’t find what else needs to be sent out, besides sending SAT scores and paying fees.

Regarding the SAT sending, when they say “If you are applying for the fall term, the Admissions Offices must receive your test results from the agencies no later than the date in January when December test scores are normally reported.” ([University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/how_apply/apply_tests_r.html)) does this mean that it’s ok to send it right when it comes out?

Are the only transcripts we need to send out the ones due July 15? “If you are admitted for the fall term, you must arrange to have final, official transcripts sent to the Admissions Office no later than July 15.” ([University of California - Admissions - The University of California offers one of the broadest ranges of study of any institution of higher learning in the world, all at an affordable price.](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/after_apply/after_transcripts.html))

If the answer to question 4 is yes, it means that we don’t have to send a transcript by nov 30. This means I’ll only send one copy of my transcript to the school I decide to go to?

Where do I write down my predicted IB scores?

Do I send the California income tax forms by Nov 30 too? If so, which forms do I sent? My family’s W-2 form is not filled in, because our income is foriegn earned. Should I just send all 14 pages?

When it says “Send only the original application form, fees and personal statement to the processing service address. Do not include letters of recommendation, transcripts, test score reports or other supporting documentation such as awards, photographs, poetry, etc., to the processor. They will not be forwarded, returned or retained.” ([University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/download.html)) does this mean that recommendation letters are NOT considered at all?

To my knowledge, the online app and payment is by Nov 30. SAT scores are by Jan, whenever they come out. And final transcripts are July 15. Am I missing anything? (this is just to clarify question 2)

If you know the answer to any of these questions, I’ll greatly appreciate you answers. Thank you so much!

Submit the application as soon as you are finished, preferably a few days ahead of the deadline. The server gets overloaded every year close to the deadline.

Have your SAT scores sent by January.

Do not send anything else, they will be asking for transcripts once you are admitted. They do not consider letters of recommendation. Do not predict your scores-just put the exam date on your application in the appropriate spot next to the name of the exam you are taking. (IB Art Appreciation June 2008). Good luck.

The UC application can be posted electronically, by Nov 30th (California time).
However, the servers do get busy, so I’d suggest you post earlier than that.

When you signed up for the Dec SATs you said where you wanted the scores sent. You need to tell the SAT company to send your scores. The UCs don’t want scores directly from you. Your transcripts aren’t needed until after you are accepted, and they need to be sent from your school. Your payment can also be done online.

They don’t consider recommendation letters.

Thank you.

Another question:
10. Where do I apply for scholarships (by campus)? The closest I got to finding it was here: [University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/scholarships/schol_apply.html)

My cousin told me to send in my Income tax forms? Can anyone confirm this?

I think it’s automatically applied to the campus you’ve selected. The UC application lets you select up to 16 areas interest ranging from academics to activities, etc…

Hmm, that’s the restricted scholarships…but then I have no idea about ‘scholarship by campus.’ Or, like you said, selecting up to 16 areas applies to that too?

I would think the former, since the UCs don’t have nearly as much to process as many privates do, but then again, the UCs have many more applications to go through. So it just might be a few weeks.

Nothing but your application and your scores. If they want anything else, they’ll ask you.

Yes. Scores are available right around Christmas for the December testing, though.

Yup. That’s when they check it against what you reported on the application, and if there are discrepancies, your admission will be rescinded.

Correct. Now isn’t that so much more efficient than having to process 40,000+ transcripts (instead just the ones who decide to matriculate)?

There’s a specific part of the application where you put down your IB scores and planned exams. I don’t think you usually “predict” your scores, but you can if you want. I would recommend not putting what you “think” you’ll get since it’s so early in the year (it’d be more appropriate if it were, say, March or April).

No.

Correct. They will throw them out. Some do request recs for borderline applicants, but this would happen later on.

Seems like you’ve just about got it all.

For the majority of scholarships, you are automatically considered when you apply. There’s also a place on the application that has you choose from a bunch of categories what applies to you, for different scholarships. I think there are other scholarships (ones started by alumni, etc.) for the different campuses. You should check out their individual sites. I know Fastweb lists many university-specific scholarships, including UCs.

If yo are applying for financial need money, not merit, you may have to fill out the FAFSA. Ask on the financial aid forum of this site.

I sent my application online on the 3rd of November. I got an e-mail immediately after I paid and submitted my application then. It wasn’t until today that I got an application acknowledgement letter in the mail. I also logged onto the UC Application Status page and verified everything and so it’s complete. Today is the 21st so it took them less than three weeks, which is what they’ve said on their website.

You only need to send your test scores through the agency (Collegeboard for SAT and ACT for ACT I believe). They do NOT take supplemental stuff. Also, you need to send in financial aid information (FAFSA) when it is live in January.

Just send it in before January. I had mine sent automatically, as I listed them on my registration (all of the colleges, the UCs being some of them).

You only send them a transcript when you enroll there. Thus, you’d only send one. It’ll be your final transcript too. They have you submit your grades on their application and if you do end up going there and things are different, except to have some answers ready because it won’t look favorably on your integrity.

Yup.

You don’t write down your predicted scores for anything. If you haven’t taken it yet, write down the date you’re expected to take it and leave the score BLANK.

No.

They don’t take supplements. They’ll dump them. They don’t consider them as a part of the process.

You’re not missing anything.

Many thanks to all replies!
